New Life For A Vintage Trinket Box

I think I picked this up at a garage sale.  I bought it because it was wood and well if it's wood, then I can paint it! But okay, so I also snatched it because it was full of matches.  This pyromaniac goes through matches like my little girl goes through body wash during a bath time.  And that's a lot.

For the record, the fire that got slightly out of hand at our house last week was on my hubby's watch.  ;)  With both of us swapping away at it with our shovels, we regained control.  Hey, it was a great way to get rid of unwanted brush in the back forty!

This has got to about the sixty-fourth project I've used with the left over paint from my piano.  I've totally lost track.  I put two coats of my homemade chalk paint on the outside of the box, used an off white and a stencil from Hobby Lobby for the middle, and then lightly sanded the whole thing.

I couldn't believe how the design showed through after I sanded the top and I LOVE IT!

I glued some vintage looking scrapbook paper on the inside, did some close-breathing on the mirror and a wipe-down with my sleeve and called it done! :)  Gotta love short and sweet projects!

  3. You did a fantastic job! What an amazing transformation. You have given me the idea to do the same with my mother-in-laws jewelry box. I know she had it for a long time. Thanks for the inspiration! -Bev
