Tori's New Shabby Chic Room Reveal

Welcome to Tori's little bedroom!

Let's take a peek at the condition of this room back in June....

I am so thankful the previous owners stripped the wallpaper from this room!! It made my life so much easier.  And that's also why I tackled this room first - hard part completed by someone else!  I also loved that they left the lightswitch covered just so I could envision what it had looked like before!

The walls had a really dry powdery stuff on them (dried paste?) and it came off easy with sandpaper.

I wonder if this could be one of the reasons Tobin was anxious for summer break to actually be over this year:

Since I couldn't get it to scrub off... I just painted over it.  Thankfully a couple of coats covered it completely and you couldn't see any of the streaks!

Little Miss had to have a go at painting.  Afterall... it was going to be her room!

And when I insisted on having the roller back, she stayed busy taking crazy pictures of Mom:

I had no plans of keeping the pale yellow trim.  However, once the room was painted the light aqua blue color, I really loved how charming and soft the yellow made the room feel!  It was really peeling and I'm sure it was lead paint, so I took a chip of it in to Lowes and they colored matched it perfectly for me!  The semi gloss covered it really well.  I didn't scrape it all down because I didn't want all the lead dust going everywhere.  I need the few brain cells I've been blessed with, and I thought it probably would be a good idea to keep my kids' brain cells intact as well.

After scrubbing the woodwork good, the Valspar semi gloss paint smoothed right over this in one coat.  Can you see the edges of the unfinished wood floor?  Easy solution: I used a rag and Old English and rubbed it all the way around the floor by the baseboards into the unfinished wood.  Blended it all in perfectly and you can't even tell!

Tori's door was missing, so I went out to the barn where I had seen a stash.  Sure enough, this one was the right size:

I still haven't found a doorknob for it though, but there it is all freshened up!

And now enjoy a little photo tour of her cute little shabby chic room:

Fortunately the hardwood floors were in really good condition in this room and all we did was polyurethane them.  They did however get pretty banged up when we moved in from furniture sliding across them... oh well.  Such is life! :)

    1. Oh, I wish I would have posted details on those antique prints - I found them at an estate sale a mile up the road and there were four in perfect condition, still in their original folder! Couldn't find a date on them though, but I know they're pretty old. The frames aren't as old.
