Gray On Gray Mandala Stenciled Wood Floor

You know what's fun about having a few extra houses on your property?
Getting to experiment and do fun things that you might not do in your own house - like
stencil a floor!

If you're a regular Kammy's Korner follower, you'll know this is not the first time I've stenciled a wood floor.  Last time I shared one, it was in Gidley Station (our Airbnb next door) and it was even the same stencil!  But this time I went with a dark gray on gray instead of white on gray.  I also did what I should have done in that room, and staggered the design so it didn't look like giant polka dots (until I added a diamond design in between each medallion design and fixed that!  Phew!).

So this entire apartment had to be covered with a couple coats of Kilz.
We won't even go into why.  Let's just say I hired a couple of kids to help tear out carpet, and nobody wanted to come back the next day!
Excuse the blurry phone pic, it's all I could find.  Wish I had a picture of the carpet!

So armed with my 24" Prosperity Mandala stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils and a foam roller, I started painting.

I had found a quart of mistinted dark gray for only $1 and I poured some into an ice cream bucket and mixed white paint with it for the base color.  Then I used the dark gray straight-up for the stenciled design. The stencil hardly takes any paint at all!  You actually want your roller to be almost dry of paint, so that you have to apply quite a bit of pressure to get the paint off, otherwise it will bleed under the stencil and you will have blobby lines. And blobby lines are.... well they're just bad.

Always keep a wet rag close by to erase any mishaps quick!

I hate numbers, math, and measuring, so using the
lines in the wood floor as my guide, I eyeballed it.

Folks, for reals.  This is easy.  From the first stencil to the last, I think it took me about forty five minutes to cover the entire floor.

This closet in the corner of the room was a funky blue with a boarded up doorway......

Let's check it out now!

I didn't stencil the closet floor because I figured the door would be shut.... and heck, it's a closet.

Like it?  Best compliment is to pin it!
