And I just discovered this adorable  8x10  shabby chic pink frame in one of my awesome sponsors Etsy shops - Huckleberry Vintage - wouldn't it be SUPER cute in a little girl's room?!!!  (Since we seem to be on the subject today). :)  Also thing it would be perfect with a mirror in it and laid on a dresser top for a vanity mirror.  Mmmmmm.  My pink side really is buried in there.... somewhere deep inside...

Maran's Lamp Redo

I have this fabulous friend with fabulous taste and she's a fabulous DIYer - but blogless!  So I'll be posting a few of her things on my blog here when my brain gets foggy.  She was here from Chi-town visiting (I got  her almost a whole day to my whole self!) so she uploaded some pics of her latest projects onto my computer - woo hoo!!

Here we are back in 2007 when we went on a cruise down in the Caribbean.  The only way I can remember the year is because I was pregnant with my second little munchkin.  Talk about awesome - all the food you want and not having to care about gaining weight!  Anyways, I'm on the left, she's on the right.

Before.  Not a bad lamp.  But not too exciting either.  Nothing says, "hey, look at me!"  In fact, I'm not even sure it would say "hi" if you walked in the room.  Probably more like stares at it's feet and hopes you turn on the  lamp on the other side of the room.

But Maran fixed that with some deep turquoise. Isn't everything better in that color?  Me thinks so.

And there she is.  See, you really don't have to go out and buy new accessories.  Just give what you've got a facelift and keep that billfold in your purse where it belongs.  (Or wallet in your back pocket if you're one of my few and far between male readers!)

Lamp for Lilly Before and After

We were on the Parkade anyway.  Why not go to St. Vincent De Paul while we're here, I asked my non-junkin' sister.  I managed to convince her.  After five minutes of being in there, my prissy sister's nostrils stung so bad she had to wait outside for me while I paid for all my treasures.  But I found this lamp for a few backaroos and knew exactly how I wanted to paint it for my darling little niece's baby room.  It'd match her nursery perfect!!!  Here is the before: 

Can you believe this is the second such lamp I've had in my possession this year?  I found one in perfect shape in some curbside trash with a matching bumper pad and other accessories.  I sold the lamp at my garage sale.  Anyways, Lilly's room is a bright, jungle themed room.

I went with yellow, because it was the only bright color of spray paint my I could find in my mom's house.  I concentrated on just elephant and the base, because I figured the elephant would be the hardest to get a paint brush to.

I'm not real great at recovering lampshades with fabric, and leaves seemed to go with the jungle theme.  These are just hot glued on, two rows.  I just folded the tops over the top of the shade. 

 And now for the finished look:

Looking at these pics, I totally should have sprayed the white part of the lamp brown.  Would have looked like the bottom of the tree!  doht.... 

My mom painted the zebra canvas last year, along with a giraffe, lion, and elephant.  Hope this lamp is just another reminder to you out there - never look at something for what it is, but what it could be!!

Pink Flowered School Desk for Abigail

Abigail likes pink.  She's a "girly girl" I've been told.  And she's going to be homeschooled along with her sister Rebecca (Click here to see her desk before and after) this year and needed a cute desk.  This was at a garage sale for $3.  The man running the sale saw me looking at it (have you ever noticed how men are so quick to just give their wife's junk away?!) and told me I could have it for a dollar before I had even uttered a word.  I took it.  As for the pink, black, and white scheme?  Here's how it turned out:





I'm finding Rustoleum's countertop paint to come in handy for SO much more than just countertops!!!  It was the perfect thing for this.  I don't think any other paint would have worked, actually.  It took three coats.  Then I just used acrylic craft paint for the flowers and put a coating of polyacrylic on top for protection and to add a shine.

Pink Petals Lampshade

I inherited this cute little lamp from my friend when she moved to *sniff, sniff* Texas.  The shade had a hole burned in it (having a late night stogie, Susan?  You can't hide your habits with evidence like this!  haha) so  after covering a lampshade with white flower petals and spraying it silver last week, I decided to use some of these hot pink flowers I yanked off from a cheap Hawaiian lei I bought at a flea market.  I hot glued them on and gave the lamp a quick new paint job.  Since I didn't have hot pink paint, I mixed together a little red, rose pink, and white to get my color.  And here's what we got:

I wish the shade was whiter... maybe I should cover it with a few more flowers so the off white doesn't show through at all.  Yup, probably should....  but probably won't.  Unless you want to buy it, and won't buy it any other way!!  $12 - come and get it! :)

Funky n' Fun Flower Lamp Shade

Figured I wasn't much since I only spent 10 CENTS on this lampshade at a yard sale the other day.  Stopped on my way home from the boy's swimming lessons and a dime was about all I could find in the van!!!  So unprepared was I - never leave home without a stash of quarters, Kammy!!!  shame, shame. (especially since the sale also had the two perfect chairs I've been looking for for my front porch!  $5 for both!  grrrrr).  Anyways,  I took about about a dozen white roses and a few other white flowers apart and hot glued one layer of them all over the shade.

Once the shade was covered, I took it outside and sprayed the entire thing with silver spray paint.

Ooooooooo la la close up.

Wish I had a before of the lamp base - it was black and gold - which I painted turquoise and then put a silver glaze over the top.  The lampshade was PERFECT for it!  It's been sitting without a shade for too long.  $15.... any takers?

Random Silver Lamp

Before.  Found this for a quarter at a garage sale once.  Might want it someday.... yup, about 4 years later, hey let's do something with that lamp, Laura!  I got some ideas from this girl that had a booth next to our church's at the Hot Air Jubilee this year.  She glued toys on a lamp and spray painted the whole thing.  Which got me thinking... we could do that with other things!  Like.........

these medicine caps from the drugs at the hospital Laura works at were the perfect thing.  Different sizes, FREE, and plentiful!!  Perfect.

Laura went to town hot gluing them on the lamp.  Of course, she couldn't just stick with the drug caps and rummaged through my random collection of buttons and such.  Much to her chagrin, I made her take a few off, cuz I couldn't bare the thought of parting with them in such a way!  Yes, I a slight hoarder. 

Once they were all glued on, we took it out to the barn and spray painted the whole shabang silver.  I think this is the beginning of many such creations!!  Might try a lamp shade next.... with.... ???  Wait and see.
