Happy 29th (again) Birthday To Me

So my sweet hubby surprised me and whisked me off to a quaint little town not from from us for my birthday.  Marshall, Michigan is a historical little haven of fun antique shops, beautiful old homes, and an old fashioned pharmacy.  I didn't know where we were headed until we pulled into the parking lot.  We love exploring old bed and breakfasts and experiencing the quaint corners of old towns.  Holiday Inns have their place in our lives too - don't get me wrong!  But with Grandma watching the kids for the night, we were off to enjoy a quiet evening at the oldest operating Inn in Michigan, The National House Inn Bed and Breakfast.  Thought maybe some of you would enjoy some of the pictures from the inside of this historic old Inn.
This old newspaper stand was the first thing to catch my eye.
I felt like we were stepping back in time while we checked in at the front desk (pictured).
I was quite envious of the rustic exposed beams!
This is one of the sixteen inviting and cozy rooms at the Inn.  This wasn't actually the room we slept in, but I peeked in and it was SO warm and cozy and inviting I almost crawled in the bed for a nap!  (I've been reading Goldilocks and The Three Bears about five times a day this week, and didn't want to wake up to any Grizzlies so I refrained).
I love Valentine's Day so all the valentine's decor was really a delight!
Wonderful rustic old trunk serving as a coffee table in one of the parlors.

I passed by this little door at least once without even realizing what the little room was!  A place to make private phone calls.  I wonder how often it gets used in this day of cell phones however.... :)
One of the neatest parts of our little get away was meeting another couple that was staying there.  It was also her birthday today - her 83rd!  And we were both from the same town in Iowa - Cedar Falls!  Pretty neat. We chatted a bit over a delicious home cooked breakfast.  Cheese omelets and big, fluffy waffles served with cherries and whipped topping. It's been ten hours and I'm still full!
Since Tim bought "The Perfect Package", it included a meal at the famous Schuler's Restaurant and Pub.  It was like stepping back in time.  I felt like I should have had on an evening gown, but thankfully, the other diners were dressed in similar attire to me.  We had soup, salad, rolls, their famous spreadable cheddar cheese and crackers, prime rib, steamed veggies and potatoes, and topped it off with Baked Alaska.  I had never had Baked Alaska before and I. AM. IN. LOVE.   I can't believe I ate the whole thing.  Oh, and beverage was also included (not alcohol) and if you know me, I took advantage of that one because I'm generally too cheap to order anything but water!  I've consumed enough calories in a 15 hour period of time to last me until next week!  WOW.  Was great to get to sleep in a little too this morning before heading back to the kiddos.  Funny how it's so nice to have a break from the munchkins but you spend most of your away time thinking about them!  When we got home at 11:00 this morning (Hubs had to head back to work), I was surprised to find Tobin home from school.  He's got a fever and sore throat.  And so goes life.... :)  Thanks, Honey, for making birthdays much more bearable!!  It's good to be 29 again.

Just a few days left to get entered into the giveaway from Kit And Caboodle - prize is winner's choice from the Pin and Poms Page!!
