Custom Iowa Girl's Basketball Shirt collab with SHIRTSPACE

Serious question: Does anyone else choose their clothing based on its ability to hold a phone? Let's be honest, we all love pockets. Even a dress that has large pockets is going to win out everytime, even if it's pocketless sister makes you look five pounds lighter. AMIRIGHT? (Since we're being honest, it's not just for holding my phone. It's also for a tissue, a few dollar bills, and duh - my hands).

I love a comfy crewneck sweatshirt, but hate the fact that they lack that wonderful front pocket! Basically I wanted a hoodie without the darn hood. Why is that so difficult to find?

Sooooo when Shirtspace.com contacted me about doing a promo with anything from their massive selection.... I asked if they had my magical concoction and to my disbelief they did. Why are these not more popular?!

Shirtspace has just about any blank item of clothing you can dream of from about 70 different brands! T-shirts, pants, jackets and bags to name a few. If you want blank apparel to customize, this is the place to go! The wonderful people at Shirtspace sent me my unicorn - a dark gray crew sweatshirt from Next Level Apparel that's ultra soft inside - just what every sane human appreciates! I'm tiny and the extra small fits perfect - doesn't even fall over my hands. (I'm 4'10" and weigh in at 94 pounds for reference). It shipped quickly and I couldn't be more happy with the high quality!

This was extra swell timing because I had been drooling over several Iowa Girl's Hawkeye basketball shirts. Why? Three years ago, my buddy Doug Pederson asked me if I'd heard of Caitlin Clark. I had not. Who watches girl's basketball? Not my boys, that was for sure. And I typically find watching sports on TV a waste of time. But the next year Doug convinced me we would be impressed with this Iowa girl (I was born and raised in Iowa so of course it had a little more pull) and to just watch a game. It goes without saying, I GOT HOOKED! Pretty soon I was following not only Caitlin on the gram but also Gabby Marshal, Hannah Stuelke, Kate Martin, Sydney Affolter and the others. They made me so proud to be from Iowa!!

Caitlin is famous for making her "from the logo" 3 point shots and it was an especially amazing night when we all watched with our jaws dropped and then the room erupting into cheers when she broke the all time record for most points scored by a college athlete by hitting a three from the logo!! Thank you number 22, for bringing attention to girl's basketball and creating great memories! And thank you to local business Corrinne's Creations for helping me design an amazing tribute to the Hawkeye starters and Caitlin Clark on this sweatshirt that I'm so proud to wear!

If you have a business that uses heat transfer vinyl or does screen printing or maybe you're just a person who likes to do crafty stuff like paint stenciled owls on blank shirts, make sure to check out Shirtspace.com!!
You will find EVERYTHIING you could want or need for your blank clothing needs. Blank slates are the best for us creative folks!

Here's one I did for my little girl back when she occasionally let me pick out her clothes:

Another one I painted when my little guy was a crazy hoodlum.
I just used white wall paint mixed with some fabric medium. He wore that thing over and over and over again. And being the type of boy he was (hence the quote "Boy: A noise with dirt on it), it was in the washing machine a LOT. And would you believe I don't think those letters hardly faded?!

So if you don't want the hassle of painting a design on a shirt, but you want to customize your amazing clothes from Shirtspace.com, get in touch with Corrinne's Creations. I told Dave what I wanted.... a whimsical heart with my favorite starters names (Yes, Gabbie is in line before CC just because she ended up being my favorite girl), and a distressed "22" with "from the logo". He had great ideas and sent them to me before we finalized the design.

Thank you Shirtspace.com for the opportunity!
I have a new favorite sweatshirt. 🖤💛🖤

My Shirt-Turned-Dress For Little Tori

So I bought this tank top in Target ages ago, and I think it was actually meant to be a work out shirt but well ya know.  My work out days are gone like a freight train, gone like yesterday, gone like a soldier in the civil war bang bang......  But it has all this ruching on the tummy that hides things that most women who have born children like to hide...  Not to mention it's blue.  My favorite color.

So when I saw it for a dollar in a local thrift store in a different color, I thought" one of these tops is good, two would be better!"  And I bought it.  When I got home however, the extra small tag in the back was definitely a mistake.  Either that, or someone who thought they were extra small wore it and gave it a major stretch.  I do what I always do when I have clothing that needs altering.  I added it to the pile of clothes-my-mom-needs-to-fix-for-me-when-she-visits that is stacked next to my sewing machine.

So what was supposed to happen, was mom was going to pinch it up at the shoulders and sew across to make the arm holes and neck holes smaller.  She did.  But she did a little too much.  When she held it up for us both to look at, we both burst into laughter.  "Do you think my head is the size of a tennis ball?!" I believe I asked.  That is when we decided if we sewed the side seams in also, it would make the perfect dress for Tori - who is in a size 4T.

I absolutely adore it on her with her little fedora and cowboy boots.  Thanks to her Grandma's "oops", Tori's got a new dress in her already-full closet. :)

Works great layered up with leggings and a blazer for cooler weather.  Thanks for the photo, Melanie from Suave Snapshots. :)

Stenciling Your Clothes

Before I even start this post, CAN I JUST SAY I GOT THOSE AWESOME ORANGE JEANS AT JCPENNEY'S FOR $1.97 last week?!!!!!
I literally speed walked in to the store for the sole purpose of fulfilling my desperate need of a  bathroom.  And of course on my speed-walking way out, happened to see a clearance rack and  my body wouldn't listen to my mind telling me I didn't have time to shop and the rest is history.  I grabbed them, and crossed my fingers that they'd fit and - phew!  Like a charm.
Oh yeah, and the shoes were marked down to $.99.  That's NINETY NINE CENTS at Dollar General.  Don't laugh.  It's the only store we have in Parma.

ANYWAYS.
Now that we got that out of the way.

Do you have a drawer full of "Plain Janes"?
Just need to add some pizzazz to your wardrobe without actually going shopping?
Just like in your house, sometimes you can breath new life into a room simply by rearranging the furniture.  So rather than heading to the nearest TJMaxx, how about go through what you already have with an open mind, grab a stencil brush, a bottle or two of acrylic craft paint and some Fabric Medium*!

You can find this at JoAnn's - and make sure you don't forget your 40% off coupon!  By squirting a little of this into your paint, it will assure great professional adhesion.  I just squirt a little piant on a lid, with another little squirt of fabric medium and mix it together with my paint brush.

*Just to note, not everyone uses fabric medium, and if you're using wall paint, you probably could just go straight to painting.  Who of us haven't gotten paint on our clothes that we wished like heck would wash out in the laundry??

I've blogged about my friend Marie before and some of her great furniture makeovers, but Marie strikes again.  She invited about forty ladies over for a brunch, and told us all to bring some old jeans or clothing to paint on.
I came heavy-laden with diaper covers, jean jackets, v-neck tees, on and on.

Ain't she an awesome lady?  I hope you have some friends that are as cool as mine.  I really do.
Here we are, designing away at her kitchen table; our tummies all full of french toast casserole, homemade cinnamon rolls, and egg bakes.

This is my favorite stencil.  I've used it on clothes, furniture, rocks, the minivan...  (okay just seein' who's actually reading.)

A friend just had twin baby girls.  For some reason, I manage to sell all those little girl outfits my daughter outgrew without the matching bloomers!  Needless to say, I have this LARGE stash of diaper cover bloomers with nothing to match them.  Of course, I figured I could do something with them....  I'm glad the day finally came, especially since my girl's been out of these things for over two years!

Once it dries, always do a quick second coat.  You'll be amazed at how much brighter it looks!

T-Shirt Fringe Scarf {Upcycle}

Kammy

By the way, I did a quick Pinterest search since I know these are out there and one of the differences between mine and the ones I found is that most keep the hem on and just slice on the raw edge.  I did that, and I didn't like how skimpy the scarf seemed, so for me, I like to cut off the hem and slice on each side.  Make sure it's a t-shirt, otherwise it won't "pull" and curl the way it should.

Wash A Rug... Dye a Skirt While You're At It!

Kammy

So I bought this rug for the extra bathroom upstairs.  It was a cheapy, which I like, and the perfect color turquoise.  Which I also like.  HOWEVER....

When my guests got out of the shower, their feet were turning a dark shade of turquoise and they couldn't figure out why.  Also, I was getting mysterious turquoise spots on my hard-to-keep-white-anyway towels.
Don't know why it took me so long to realize the culprit.  I'm sure if I was a brunette, I would have been Johnny-on-the-spot... ha.

I knew the only way to get the turquoise dye to stop leakin' and bleedin' all over was to wash it.  And since this was obviously some pretty powerful dye, I decided to throw a few old white things in with it.
My mom had made me a really pretty white casual skirt probably over a decade ago.  I wore the daylights out of and it had yellowed over time.  I remembered I had tossed it into the "fabric scarps" pile in my craft room to repurpose it and though, why not?  It would be an awesome skirt in aqua!!  I soaked them all night.

Tossed in a few old white t-shirts also, so I'd have a pretty color for t-shirt scarves.

I've since changed a few minor things to my tute, but you get the idea. :)

Yay!!
So glad my rug "saved" my skirt!!! :)

My 25 Cent Vintage Boots! {How To "Fix" The Deteriorated Lining}

I was out running errands this fall when I saw a garage sale sign and squealed around the corner so as not to miss it.  I was just about to pay for my pile of jeans for my six year old when I noticed something that looked like super duper cute boots peaking out from the table.  I pulled them out and saw there was a twenty five cent sticker on them.  Must be a mistake.  Those stickers always fall off and find themselves stuck on the wrong item.  Plus, they were hidden under the table, so maybe she wasn't even getting rid of them.  She said they were indeed twenty five cents and were a size six.  OH MY.  My heart was racing!  I'm not quite into a size six, however I'm cold blooded and usually wear two pairs of thick socks anyway in my boots.  I  kicked off a flip flop and tugged them on.  Eeeeee.  Feel kinda sticky and yucky inside.  But my excitement totally overpowered the yucky feel inside and I said I'd take them.  Stuck.  Couldn't get them off.  And the weird thing was, there was all kinds of room in them.  But that yucky inside was like a quick sand, pulling my feet down into their abyss forever.  Now I'm just getting weird.  But do you know how awkward it was to have that lady help me pull my (her) boot off?  Really awkward.  And when it finally came off, my foot was covered in this sticky but powdery orange stuff.  But for a QUARTER?!
Here's what my socks looked like later when I tried the boots on with with them:
I called my mom.  She's knows most everything.  Vintage boots?  Yeah, the lining deteriorated inside.  Not sure what you can do about that....   So since she didn't know, I knew who would.  I asked the boot expert downtown at the boot shop.  That guy is pretty cool.  I guess he spits when he talks, but I must not notice because I'm too busy being amazed at how fast he moves.  Like WHOA dude.  He's rugged and super intense, with this long slicked back pony tail, and could probably win some kind of medal in the Olympics for speed. Anyways, he shook his head and said there really wasn't anything you could do.  That was the trouble with vintage boots.  No way to really replace it.  Rats.
Then, I read somewhere once that someone had vacuumed their old boots out.
Ain't got nothing to lose!
So I stuck the end of my vacuum hose, with no attachments on it, into my boot, starting at the toe.  I started at the toe, turned the vacuum on, the worked my way around the heel and up the sides as best I could.  It was actually a lot harder than it sounds.  You couldn't go back "in" to the boot with the  machine running, so I had to keep dragging the vacuum out, shutting the vacuum off, and going back in, turning it on, dragging it up the sides and out, shutting it off, and repeat, repeat, repeat!!!!
Pin ItI was nervous it was going to deform my gorgeous boots forever!
Yes, I really do have around thirty pairs of boots.  But these really are my favorite pair!
I wear them with jeans, skirts, dresses, sweatpants....  okay scratch the last one.
But I really do wear them all the time - they are my go-to boot of choice!
I Love the western-y look they have, the perfect heel height, and relaxed "scrunchiness".
Yay for vintage boots, garage sales, and vacuum cleaners!!
