Exactly a week ago today, I had no intentions of completely redoing my little girl's bedroom.
Tori will be three soon, and her room was a rather pitiful sight.
Now I'm not going to claim this is anywhere near jaw-dropping, but I hope you love it and maybe it'll give you a little inspiration as well!
My mom was here visiting (babysitting me while my hubby was away on business, she says!) and we were working on organizing and finishing the basement. We finally got that project done and she had two days left in Michigan. We decided to go in Tori's closet and lift up some of that hideous blue berber carpet to see what might be hiding underneath.
Old plank sub flooring! Score!!
And an hour later, we were ripping out the staples and scrubbing the old coal smoke from the wood.
There are a load of pictures in this post so let's get started!
This may be nearly impossible to believe, but from the moment we decided to tackle this room until we finished it, we never left the house. Which means we never bought one single supply or decoration!
Everything you see in this room is something that I had on hand, including the paint, frames, boards, large scraps of white fabric for the curtains, you name it - we didn't buy it!
The colorful antique quilt was made by my Great Grandma Sluiter, using scraps from dresses she made for my Grandma. |
Want a peek inside this little door into the play nook? It's the place where children can do the unthinkable - draw on the walls!
Click HERE for a tutorial on the aqua white washed headboard for an easy DIY.
This vanity/dressing table was my mother in law's when she was a little girl.
I'm so happy to have inherited it!!
Click HERE to see how I painted and
stenciled these beautiful floors!
You can view a before and after of Tori's shabby little chair HERE. |
Maybe someday I'll get cute, matching knobs for the old dresser that was once my Dad's. |
The curtain tutorial can be found over at The Shabby Creek Cottage. Thanks for the hours you put into these while I stenciled the floor, Mom!!!! You're the best! |
I would also love some day to exchange the shade on the lamp (a wedding gift 12 years ago) for a fun fabric rosette covered one. Any opinions? |
For now, I've hung up my hat and coat,
but I'll be back with more details and tutorials in the days ahead.
p.s. We stopped at Lowe's last night after our date to buy a threshold for the door. So now the total for this room makeover is $5.60. :)
WOW! It's totally magazine-worthy! I love the frames, the quilt, the curtains, the floor, and what you did with the yoyo garlands.
ReplyDeleteI can feel all the love that you and your Mother put into this beautiful room.I love everything that you did! It's a forever room, that is so priceless. Thanks for sharing your photo's.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job, Kammy! I am amazed that you were able to do this without spending any money and using stuff you had. The floor turned out great and I love the drapes. And what does Miss Tori think of her new room?
ReplyDeleteI did a rose petal and bud lampshade for my granddaughter's room a couple of years ago and posted about it. After seeing one {and others} for over $100.00 I knew I had to figure out a way to make one.
Oh my gosh, Kammy!!!!! It looks absolutely fantastic! BEA-UUUUUUUU-TI-FUL!!! I love it! You and your mom totally rocked it out!

Wow, great redo. How cute!! Loving that quilt
ReplyDeleteI know you're tired of the lamp after 12 years, but it suits the room perfectly, in my never-to-be-humble opinion. It's a spark of interest - different than the rest of the furnishings - and the color makes that corner's tone-on-tone seem sophisticated (night-time photo) I can see that maybe you'd want to soften the lamp base for daylight so the contrast is more subtle, but I'd definitely leave the shade alone. WELL DONE, my Dear.
ReplyDeleteWhat a transformation! I love the floor and all the accessories too. Your great grandmother's quilt is a real treasures.
