Pink Flowered School Desk for Abigail

Abigail likes pink.  She's a "girly girl" I've been told.  And she's going to be homeschooled along with her sister Rebecca (Click here to see her desk before and after) this year and needed a cute desk.  This was at a garage sale for $3.  The man running the sale saw me looking at it (have you ever noticed how men are so quick to just give their wife's junk away?!) and told me I could have it for a dollar before I had even uttered a word.  I took it.  As for the pink, black, and white scheme?  Here's how it turned out:

I'm finding Rustoleum's countertop paint to come in handy for SO much more than just countertops!!!  It was the perfect thing for this.  I don't think any other paint would have worked, actually.  It took three coats.  Then I just used acrylic craft paint for the flowers and put a coating of polyacrylic on top for protection and to add a shine.

Happy learning, Abigail!

My Shabby Chic Hutch - Finally did it!

I bought this hutch probably about 10 years ago, but never with the intention of changing a thing!  My friend and I decided I needed some wood in my house.  Not everything can be painted, you need wood for the warmth element.  But well, that changed yesterday and though I liked it wood, I LOVE HOW IT TURNED OUT!!!!

After priming and painting it white, I sanded all the corners, edges, and a few here-n-there spots to give it a nice distressed look.  I started out with 240 grit sand paper, but switched to 100 and it worked much better!

I didn't change a thing with the hardware either - they were old, vintage, and already distressed! :)

Finished look!  I used a turquoise paint (leftovers from my daughter's room) in the back so my dishes would pop with the splash of color behind them!  Annnnd, I thought it would look great with all my old aqua Ball jars, which I just picked up last weekend for a quarter each at a garage sale!!!!

Though I love the look of the doors open on top, I think they'll have to stay closed.... I'd rather not have to dust off my dishes everytime we use them!

Icee bags and turkey packaging

I don't run to JoAnn's or Michaels every time I need something.  In fact, I rarely do.  You can almost always find what you're in need of.... if you just think outside the craft store!  I need to give credit to my pal Marie for this one - she used the netted bag around a bag of oranges once to put with a flower... so I started looking in my freezer and found a bag of frozen ice treats....
and cut pieces to use for headbands and hair accessories! They add the perfect touch of fancy nancy (Fancy Nancy - is she a doll or something?).

And what's this white netting from??  Not a bag of freeze pops this time..........
My guess is, you already figured it out from the title.  You're so smart. :)  Don't forget you can buy these in Kammy's Korner Store for only $4!!!!

NOTE: Giveaway extended until September 9th for people unable to comment on the blog.  You may now also comment on my Facebook page to enter to win a signed copy of "Seasons: A Real Story of an Amish Girl" giveaway happening now! For details and how to enter, click HERE.

Freebie Dresser Gets Fab

It was one of those rare finds - a FREE DRESSER on Craigslist!!!  I got lucky enough to be the first caller and hopped in my truck to get it.  It was gorgeous.  If an 80's flower print and gold/wooden combo pulls are gorgeous. Well, it had gorgeous potential anyway!

Here's the mirror in all it's glory.  Complete with a playboy bunny sticker.  Classy.

I wanted some big cool design off centered on the drawers, but was doubtful of my freehand abilities.  I found this on google images, printed it, and cut it out partly, but it was waaaaaay too small.  I looked at it to use as a guideline, and went with free handing.  Good thing for erasers.

First attempt at drawing it on. :)

We got rid of the hideous drawer pulls and, though Lindsay from BetterAfter once called these Bat wing handles (or something to that affect), they were the perfect fit and I'm all about using what I have on hand - I had these on hand from our bedroom set!  I spray painted them black, since bats are black - not gold!  Click HERE to see how our bedroom set transformed with the simple act of updating drawer pulls!)

And here folks, is the finished product.  You can purchase this for the low rate of $50 at my garage sale tomorrow!!!!  Be there or be square. If you live in Jackson county that is.....
