$5 Dresser Before and After

I'll be unconventional and show you the "AFTER" first.  Ain't it purdy?  It cost me 5 buckaroos!  And was perfect for my parent's cabin.
Here she is in her "BEFORE" state.  Unfortunately, the mirror wouldn't fit back on top since the ceiling is low and slanted, so it will have to find a new home.  The paint was peeling a little bit on top so I decided to scrape it off.  Oh my.  I gave the job to my five year old who loves to help me in the barn, but it proved too difficult for him, me, AND my hubby.  Not even the electric sander was going to budge it. Oh, and the top was laminate - never would have guessed! I rummaged around in a huge "free" box of items I had picked up at a garage sale and found some paint stripper.  Uhhhh, note to self:  Keep the scraper in the drawer until AFTER YOU'VE APPLIED PAINT STRIPPER!  Why have I never used that stuff before?  My arms were seriously sore the next day from trying to scrape that paint off with my little scraper.  Oh well, it burned off a few calories and heaven knows I need to burn a few of those!  Could have done without the time-gobbling part though. :)  I spray painted all the hardware white, gave the whole shebang a good coat of Zinsser Primer (that stuff truly is the best!) and painted it gray with leftover paint from my craft room.  Kept the top white, since I dig the two-toned look.  And there ya have it.

  1. I love this one! I was going to ask you if you had any full length mirrors hanging around that you'd like to get rid of? Addison pulled ours off the back of our bathroom door yesterday and broke it, luckily it was a cheap ol' plastic one. I can't function without a full length mirror!

  8. Love that grey - it reminds me of Wedgewood dishes with those white accents but in grey rather than blue or green. Thanks for sharing!

  9. That's the best looking $5.00 dresser I've ever seen! Love the combination of the white & grey. The white handles stand out nicely, and you can really see the intricate details.
