Chocolate Caramel Poke Cake

I needed a chocolate dessert to bring for our family's large Thanksgiving gathering.
It was the morning of, and I still wasn't sure what to do.
I had made a jello poke cake the week before and decided to try the same concept using chocolate and caramel topping (since I had an almost full jar in the fridge!).

Kammy's Chocolate Caramel Poke Cake

Ingredients:
1 chocolate cake mix (or you favorite chocolate cake from scratch)
1 12 oz jar of caramel topping
2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips (divided)
1/2 cup brown sugar
3 Tbls butter or margerine
1 cup heath bits (optional)

Directions:
Sprinkle one cup of chocolate chips over the cake batter in a 9x13 pan and bake cake as directed.  When cooled, cover the cake with holes about 1/2 an inch apart by poking it with a chopstick, birthday candle, or similar object.  Make sure to go almost to the bottom.  Then warm your caramel topping in the microwave so it pours easier and even pour the caramel over the cake so it seeps down into the holes.  Sprinkle the brown sugar and heath bits evenly on top of the cake.  Melt remaining one cup of chocolate chips and butter together and drizzle on top.  Ready, set, indulge! :)

Here are the steps in picture form:
(pardon the blur on a few of them!)

My son having a great time poking the cake as fast as he can!

Yes, some of my caramel topping was missing....
but it's what I had on hand!
Pour warm caramel over the cake.
Top with brown sugar, Heath bits, and chocolate topping.
Observe a half eaten cake in a matter of minutes.

Now how about bringing that awesome cake in an awesome carrier to that party?!

  1. Oh.My.Goodness!!! There should be a law against anything that sinfully delicious, as I can see it is just by looking at the pictures. I cannot possibly make this, as I would eat every last crumb BY MYSELF. Can't do it. Not possible.
(hmmm, maybe if I made it and put most of it in the freezer and ate just a bit at a time---)
Who am I kidding, I can resist anything except temptation!!!

  4. I've always wondered what a poke cake was and now I know, thanks to you! But wow, all that beautiful caramel dripping into the crevices. I need myself a whole batch of these now. They look so delicious and moist.

If you don't mind, I'd love if you would stop by and share these and any other dessert creations on Sugar & Slice Sunday weekly link party.
