A hot chicky-do dropped this desk off at my house with the request to paint it white and shabby chic.... but I'm strongly considering offering HER money so I can keep it! I'm rather ecstatic at how it turned out and I'm holding my breath hoping she loves it as much as I do!!
But first we had this little veneer issue to deal with.
It's really pretty easy. Cut it to size, iron it on, and trim off the excess.
My mistake was I should have stained the new veneer dark like the desk because when I distressed the edges with the sander, well it just didn't "distress". Shucky darn.
For the drawer pulls, I first spray painted them red and then using a small artist paint brush, painted them black, allowing some of the red to peak through here and there.
I feel back to one of my favorite stencils to add some elegance to the edges of the "chalkboard" inserts.
Why haven't I ever used the electrical sander to distress edges before? Wow did that make the job a cinch!
You'd think I was new to this DIY stuff.... man, I'm a dork.
And finished product - TA DA!

Maybe you'll get lucky and she'll hate the desk and you can keep it. But i doubt it, since it's GORGEOUS! fantastic job. She's going to love it!
ReplyDeletepretty!
ReplyDeleteIt looks fabulous! I thing the stencil really added something to it. (Oddly, I just finished a desk this afternoon that is very, very similar to this. It's sitting in my car ready to go in the shop tomorrow.)
ReplyDeleteLove it! The chalkboard inserts are so cool! I have a desk that needs a makeover and a chalkboard on top would be perfect! Thanks for sharing! Pinning!

This project did turn out very nice. I bet your client was so happy. I especially like the photo of your hand wearing diamonds, fingernail polish, and that pearl bracelet while sanding the top of this desk. I agree,...we must look our best no matter what we are doing...OR NOT!
ReplyDeleteOh Kammy! That turned out fabulous!!! I would want to keep it as well. I'm sure she will love it

Love it! My daughter has a desk similar to this, but I've hesitated to do anything with the leather inlays. But, this looks great, they way you did it.
