Spray Painted Vinyl Zebra Chair

When that super sad day came that it was time for my beloved Jackson Resale Factory to finally close it's doors, they put out a message on their facebook page that said "FREE FOR ALL" - if you walked in the doors, you had to leave with something!!  No money required.  I was all over that and you can read about my adventures with "neighbor grandpa" here.
This chair was one of those things I tossed in the back of my truck that made neighbor grandpa think I had totally lost my marbles.  It was pretty awful looking... but I was sure there was SOME way to make it usable again!

I came super closed to just tossing it on the burn pile, but then I saw that it came apart pretty easily.  I dismantled it...

I wrote "Hi" on the side to show how the massive amount of dust that the disintegrating fabric created.

It had three different upholstery jobs on it - all of which were sinfully seventies.  The vinyl on the final layer had a large rips in it so my mom helped me out and we covered in batting.  Thankfully, my aunt had just given me a big bag of it because she was cleaning out her house and luckily I get everyone's unwanted jazz. :)

I covered the whole cushion in a fun zebra print using a staple gun.

I covered all of the vinyl with several coats of Rust-oleum plastic primer spray paint which I was lucky enough to find on clearance, and then covered in the lime green glossy Rust-oleum Painter's Touch.  I'm very curious to see how it holds up.  It's been about a month now and so far it's done just swell.

  10. LOVE that chair! It looks fantastic. I love that you painted it. That's the kind of thing I would do because, hey - it's an improvement on something that would be trash, but Hubby is kind of a Debbie Downer and always tells me the way it "should" be done. I like your way and I bet it'll hold up just fine!
