My Computer Desk From The Curb

During what we folks around here call "Parma Junk Days", my mom and I were out picking through the piles on the curbs when we spotted this nice desk.  It was a beastly heavy piece of furniture.  Thankfully I was pulling my trailer on my truck so we didn't have to lift it up in to the bed, but it was still difficult to move.  Yes, I really need to get back into working out/weights.  We ended up sliding it on it's top on the trailer and in the process left some rather nasty scrapes and gouges.  I can be okay with that when I get it for free.

Luckily, I have a dolly at home for times like these!

I had some odds and ends of paint with various red shades.  I tried to mix up enough chalk paint and make my own, but it ended up being a rather ugly brownish red color.  Ewwwww.

Hey, when it comes to mixing your own paint, you win some - you lose some.

One day when I was in Lowes, I scanned the mistint shelf like I always do.
Low and behold, there was this little red mistint for fifty cents!

I bought the new red, and it sat on my desk for weeks, reminding me that my desk was really ugly and needed a new shade of red.
Last week, my little three year old gobbled down the last bite of her breakfast and asked, "Can we paint something today, Mommy?"
I decided it was a great day to paint the desk, and gave her a brush.
(I went behind her and rolled it out with my foam roller.
There was just enough to cover the entire desk.  Phew!

I used stencils to number the knobs, and taped off around the drawers to outline them with white.

The "drawers" on the left are actually faux drawers and it's a door that opens up to hold the computer.  The middle "drawer" folds down and my keyboard slides out.  I love this desk!!!

And to think I got it FREE!  (And then only put fifty cents into it!)
