White Hutch With A Pop Of Color {too much color?}

This is round two on this hutch.

Goooooodness gravy.  Round one was back in 2011 and WOW I had some hideous photography going on back then.  Not that it's yeller stellar now, but I think I've made vast improvements... just, perhaps, maybe?  And also, probably none of you saw or remember the post anyway! A lot has happened since then.  Like we added a hamster to the family.  Two more of my kids have joined the school force.  We've moved to a different house. I've got a creased forehead.
Yes, a different house!  Which means I need to show you how this gorgeous old hutch looks in it's new home!  Nope, I haven't changed a THING about this hutch in the last five years.  It's the same exact as it was five years ago.  Just showing ya with awesome new photos and in it's NEW home!

So here we go...

Oh man, oh man, oh man.  I can already sense the amount of cringing this post is going to bring to many of you.  The wood was gorgeous!!!
Have mercy on me, dear readers!  If I had just bought this hutch now, I probably would not have painted it!  This was an antique mall purchase way back in the day when me and hubby spent money on things like that.  Before kids.  Before Craigslist was popular.  Probably about fifteen years ago. I liked it wood.  I really did.  But then when we put an addition on at our old house it just seemed like it needed a nice clean start.  White.  With a pop of color in the back.  I was REALLY into turquoise.  Still like it, but ohhhhh have I toned it down. I'm more of an aqua blue person these days.

I toyed with the idea of lightening up the blue, but dude.  There are just 798 other projects on my list that take priority.  So I jammed the top full of all my white dishes and I'm pretty sure it takes away from the hard turquoise look.  Totally softens it, agree?

I used sandpaper to distress the edges:

So is it stupid to share dumb blond moments in public?
It might just exacerbate the preconceived idea that we're all just a few paint sticks short of Sherwin Williams.... BUT I'll go for it anyway.  A friend sent me a birthday package via FED EX in the mail a few weeks ago.  I was so excited, and then real nervous when I opened and found this adorable succulents.  How long had they sat on my front step in freezing temperatures?  I'm not sure I saw the box for a couple of days!  Maybe I should water them.  My kids tried to convince me they were plastic.  I tried to convince them they were real.  We argued about it.  They won.  NO NEED TO WORRY.  *Face palm*.

  3. This is beautiful and there definitely is not too much color. Trust me on that. I'm more of a neutrals kind of gal with pops of color. You worked your magic perfectly.
