Where I Come From... A Lot Of Front Porch Sittin'

Okay, in my DREAMS I do a lot of "front porch sittin'".....  Maybe when I'm an empty nester and don't know what to do with my time I'll get to sit here and relax with a good book.  Actually, this is the swing I sit on when the weather is beautiful and wait for my son to get off the bus.  But it didn't look this pretty when school was in session.  Nope, it looked like this:

I had some awesome help this last week.  When we were in Iowa over July 4th, I picked up this sweet girl and brought her back home with me.  I'll show you later on this week hopefully some of the creativity that came from this girl while she was here.  I showed her my craft room and pretty much said "have at it" and boy did she ever!
On our "to do" list was paint the porch swing aqua and then I let her pretty much decide on  some kind of cool design.  She picked out this fun little stencil to go across the back in a dark gray color.
I'm not a real hot seamstress, as most of you know.  But I wanted to recover an old throw pillow.  Luckily, Rebecca (who is 12 YEARS OLD mind you) grabbed this gray fabric and literally whipped up a pillow cover for it in less than ten minutes.  I used a yellow tablecloth to make the flower on the front.  You can see the tutorial for how I did the rosette (originally on my duck/duct tape boots)  HERE.  I hot glued it on the pillow for an easy no-sew project.
Here's a peak at the pillow I dumpster dove for years ago that we (she) covered.
So there she is!  Looks a tad more inviting now, don't ya think?? Or maybe you prefer the peeling, chippy look of before.... :)  And yes, this brings us one post closer to the FULL porch reveal!

  2. Fantastic! I'm pea green with envy over that porch swing. I've always pictured swinging on a porch with an icy glass of lemonade....Likely my children would make it their mission to "bring down the porch swing!", but I can dream

  3. Gorgeous!!! Is this the same aqua paint you mixed up for your dresser? Someday you are gonna have your own paint line like Miss Mustard Seed ;)
