My Old Cupboard Door

We live in a doubly old house.  From the 1800's.  I found this old cupboard door out in the barn when we moved in, among old wood trim, doors, windows, rabbit cages, and other ancient stuff.  I love ancient stuff!  This was crackle painted and distressed without me ever having to touch it!!  It's been sitting out in my corncrib because I just knew someday it would find a special spot.  And now with our addition....  I have a spot for it!!! 

It was so dirty, but the paint came off super easy. Hello my maniac mother who says "this thing is filthy" then proceeds to grab a rag and scrub the daylights out of it!! I had a heart attach - STOP!!!!!!!  Along with the dirt disappearing, so is all the amazing crackled bluish colored paint!!!!  (Someone once described a scene with the main character being my mother, which I thought applied to this scenario as well: "She came rushing into our kitchen like a barbarian and ripped the curtains off the wall!" Bahahaha!).  Soooo I took over and washed it with a soft artist brush in soapy water and dabbed it carefully with a paper towel. 

Then I coated it with polyurethane to hold the paint in place and also give it a good aged finish (as if it needed that, huh!).

The clock was my mom's idea.  I have a wood one we were going to distress... but I couldn't find it with all the hullabaloo around here so she bought this one at Dollar General.

Ask my father-in-law how he likes it.  He thinks I've lost my mind.
