Am I giving you this bedroom reveal slowly and painful or what?!! Hey, I haven't done the curtains yet. Or finished the pillows for my bed. I'm working on it, pinky promise!!! :)
|
All the furniture pieces in this set originally had these gold pulls. I updated them about two years ago, but still wanted to paint BAD. My hubby ordered this set for us before we got married and I remember how excited I was!!! My taste in home furnishings has pretty much gone from the North Pole to the South Pole in those almost twelve years. I always feel a twinge of guilt when I think of how our grandparents bought one set and it lasted their whole lifetime. If they were lucky, their kids would want it. If not, it would get auctioned off cheap while some farmers and their wives stand around on a drizzly day bidding. |
|
Of course I mixed up my own chalk paint for better durability and a shabby texture. |
|
I sanded all the edges for a good but not super duper distressed look. Thank goodness for Shabby Chic. I don't have to worry about Tim knicking his dresser! Then the whole thing got several coats of polyacrylic, thanks to my sweet mama. (Mom, can you come back??? Pleeeease??) |
|
My pal Paula passed this along to me cuz she figured I could "do something with it". I sure didn't do anything special, but it was perfect for all the stuff Tim unloads out of his pockets every night onto his dresser top and also to house his large cologne collection.
May I tell you something funny?!! While working on this room, I discovered THREE THINGS my hubby collects. 1) Brown work shoes. Unbelievable. He says he wears them ALL too. 2) Cologne bottles. He LOOOOOVES cologne. He once said when he was younger he wanted to be the guy that walked out of the room and you could tell he'd beeN there. Mission accomplished. Even when the bottles are empty however, he still stashes them!! and are you ready for this?? 3). Hotel Laundry Bags. Yup, here's what I pulled out of his closet (and I'm pretty sure he has some stuffed into the corners of his dresser drawers): |
Now that we've picked on my sweet honey dear, back to the dresser. I painted the little round wood box the same color as the antique dresser in the corner (which I'm very EXCITED went a little crazy on Pinterest!!! You can check it out
HERE.)

Okay, hold on to your horses. More of the room reveal to come!!! (If you missed my dresser, click HERE.)

I love it and the little round thingy is great too!! It's amazing what you find when you start cleaning up. My husband has his check stubs for the entire year and probably more! It doesn't sound too bad but when it takes up almost a complete half of his sock drawer we have a problem. It's crazy what these men keep :)
ReplyDeleteMy husband would NEVER let me paint our bedroom furniture so Im living vicariously through yours! I LOVE it and cannot wait to see the entire room!!!
ReplyDeletePs... Little one still loves sporting her billion Dora panties-sheesh!!! (whatever works, right?!?)

ReplyDeleteThanks!
Joanna
This turned out so nice! I'm going to check out the rest of your blog and see what else you do!
ReplyDeleteWhat is the chalk paint recipe you used and have you used it before? How does it hold up? I have a friend who's tried a few diff. ones, but says it doesn't hold like the A.S. paint. Would love your opinion!
Thanks for sharing all the sweet collections of your hubby's! I can justify my own collections better if my hubby has some!
Loving the new look. I need to give my hubby's dresser a remake (much to his chagrin) and he might go for a look like this. Love the distressing!
ReplyDeleteso pretty! white just lightens it all up!
