Gettin' Crafty With Crocs

Sometimes being small really has it's advantages.  Like getting your eight year old nieces hand-me-downs!!!  In case you didn't know, a woman's size five shoe is equivalent to a girl's size three.  I try and use this to my advantage.  When my sister in law asked if I'd like her daughter's old crocs, I said "sure" because though I said I'd never wear such things, my mother has been a recent converter and can't say enough good about them.  So I figured I'd give them a try.  Afterall, they were hand me downs - I was getting a free trial!  But pink......  well it's just not really me.....
After cleaning them as best I could using a toothbrush and soap, I popped the rainbow and flower embellishments off.  Yes, they're girl's shoes, but since I'm 31 and not eight....  well ya know.
I'd never used that spray paint before.  It was pricey stuff from JoAnn's.  One reason I've never used it - I don't do pricey! I think maybe my problem was I didn't get it shook enough because it came out a little chunky, and kind of chalky.  When it dried, I rubbed them down with a dry rag.  Some of the roughness came off, but so did the color.  I then gave them a good second coat, after shaking the can much longer, and it seemed to do the trick.
While it was drying, I decided to make some fabric flower embellishments to replace the juvenile ones.  I used a stencil cuz I'm just not good with cuttin' out fabric flowers.
And to get more bang for my buck, I folded it over four times and pinned it in place.    I also cute out a smaller one for the center.
Then I sewed a button in the middle and sewed it onto the crock.  Wa la!  "Crocks" and "Cute" in the same sentence?!  I never thought I'd see the day!
So let's have one last peak at the before, shall we?

Ahhhh, my new favorite shoes to hang around and chill in.
Thanks so much, my sweet little niece!!!!!  Keep growing! :)
