Blogless But Creative Friends (Trena's Kitchen Makeover)

While wasting time on Facebook one day, I noticed a friend from North of the border had posted pictures of her kitchen.  After reading the description of how she pretty much just used paint for this whole reno, I quickly messaged her and asked if I could pop her photos onto the Korner.

I just LOVE it when people transform the look of a whole room with something as simple as paint.
And the awesomest part of it is... that isn't glass on those cupboard doors!  It's plastic.  AND... SHE PAINTED THEM.  Three stinkin' loud cheers for Trena!!!

In Trena's words:
"Paint was my only option right now and it turned out way better than I expected. I sanded all the green and then used Bulls Eye 1 2 3 primer on everything. That primer is the best thing ever! Yes, I did even prime the plastic and then painted and it worked wonderfully! The gray walls were painted when we moved in last November and we found some cheap handles in the states back in the winter as well. Now the green countertop that didn't look too terrible before, really stands out. So, will have to do a little research on that one."

One more bit of coolness from Trena.  She had this transparent, funky colored plates but wanted a solid look.  Back to the paint!  She primed the back of them so the hangers wouldn't show.

Don't they look great?!

  1. Thanks for posting my few moments of creativity! I am pretty thrilled myself with these two particular projects. Too bad I don't have a close up picture of the plastic inserts of the cabinets. They were also covered in sparkles. Plain awful, something had to be done!

oh and by the way, if you ever want to hang plates - I had newspaper replicas on the wall for 3 months before deciding how to place them. I also had people holding plates while I took pictures. So, you will need time......

  2. awesome, looks so much better all white. Have her try painting her countertops too....that's what we did and we love them. Sponge, primer, acrylic paint and a good sealer:)

  3. Whoah! Great redo with just paint. I love it. I have a question for you, for her... lol. I love the plates and I'm wondering HOW she hung them!? I dont see any hardware at ALL. I was thinking of hanging plates again but I would love to find a way to not have that little bracket in there....

    Thanks Kammy! Great post :D

    1. I thought that question might come up :-) They are so fantastic and a great price! Just buy at least one more then you will need in case you don't do one right. The website does not recommend using them on paint but I decided to try anyway because the back of the plates were textured and really wanted something you couldn't see. I was not able to use the disc hanger on the smaller bowl-type plates because they had a glaze and they wouldn't stick. So I crazy glued picture hangers to them. In the end, I probably could have used the picture hangers on all of them, just using 2 smaller ones on the larger plates. But the disc hangers were great too.

  4. Awesome reno and can't believe it was just paint!!!!!

  5. impressive! love the way you decorated the wall with the plates!!!
