Barstools and a chair

BEFORE: Pulled these out of a thrift store, painted them black and recovered the cushions. Cushions are the easiest to recover - just buy some clearance fabric, pull it real tight, and get staple gun happy! Then for extra protection, I applied a coat of clear polyurethane.

BEFORE: ugly $1 church rummage sale chair
After: ripped the yellow cushion off the back, painted it black, and recovered it with clearanced out fabric from JoAnn's.

  2. Well, with any painted piece, it is definetly susceptible to chips and scratches but there are a few things you can do to make it hold up better. Prime first, paint, and then wait a few weeks for the paint to "cure" before you use the furniture. Also, put a coat or 2 of polyurathane on top of the paint. That really protects it, although I haven't found one that doesn't turn my white paint a yellowish color!
