Diagonal Striped Nightstand Makeover

A garage sale in a trailer park and a few dollars got me this bursting-with-potential nightstand.
I primed and painted it white and then I guess I did a bad thing.  I left it for a few weeks, hardly even visiting to say more than a thirty second hello, in the barn.  The temps took a plunge, and she was cold.  I put on my snow boots and ran out to fetch her last week.  Being in a bit of a hurry, not because I had anywhere to go, but because I was excited about painting diagonal stripes, I skipped the measuring tape and eye balled the stripes.  That part turned out just peachy.  I didn't realize until I started peeling off the tape that some of the paint near the bottom had bubbled and no matter how careful I was peeling off that stinkin' tape, it was coming off with it!
I have never had paint bubble before...  Does anyone know if leaving it out in the cold was to blame?!!
I wasn't about to strip the whole thing down, soooooo  one side has a little imperfection!  Humph.  "As is" discount. :)

I did a little distressing on the edges, painted the hardware with black spray paint and gave it a high five.

  3. I love it, I think it is the cold I've had paint not stick because it was so cold out before!

  9. Awww. I think imperfections can sometimes be the thing that really sets a piece apart. It reminds us of the hard work done to bring a piece to life. It reminds us we're human and we learn through trial and error. This piece is really something to be proud of. It looks so pretty and good on you for seeing its potential. :)

  10. You said you primed, but even a light sanding before that step would have probably been best in order to remove the shiny finish which is my opinion of the bubble issue. That's why I think you had the problem. My(now, retired) husband once was the manager of a very high-end furniture mfg. company and they kept strict even temperature controls in the finishing area. Regardless, imperfections are how we learn our lessons and the shabby-chic look is so IN now that no one will suspect that this wasn't planned. Smile, it's great!
