YAY!!!! I've been wanting a ladder like this a looooong time. It had been a little while since I meandered through the GIGANTIC
Jackson Resale Factory so me and the mother bear who was visiting from Iowa decided to go take a gander. Low and behold - a long, old, ladder! BUT.... it was waaaaay too long to fit in my mini van. Hmmmm... well shucks, let's just chop it in half! "Hey Casey, cool part owner of the
Resale Factory that you are, got some hand saws so we can quick cut this baby?" He comes back with two.
Now this is where I SHOULD HAVE RAN AND GRABBED MY CAMERA!!!! I mean, every good blogger keeps their camera attached to their hip for Pete's sake - why oh WHY did I not take the time.... So Casey is sawing one side, my mom is ferociously sawing at the other side, and I'm hootin' and hollerin' and fist pumpin' for Mom to win - she's super competitive like moi - and it was great to see the sweat start running down Casey's brow competing with that Grandma twice his age. They pretty much tied. Gotta love good times at the Jackson Resale Factory. Gotta love those guys. Gotta love their stuff!

I had mom pose with the saw and ladder when we got home since stupidddddd me didn't capture it at the Factory. |
|
So here it is on my wall... scrubbed down but leaving all it's rustic, shabby beauty alone. |
|
We screwed little hooks into each section and hung the pictures with jute twine. The Faith sign is made from a laminate floor sample. Someone commented that my hubby was a "hunk" so there's some more eye candy for ya if you're out there reading this. ;) |

I found the bottles last year in a ditch by my house and spray painted them (and the weeds - also found in the ditch). Post on the "Blessed" sign I made is HERE. |

I love the finished ladder in your home!!!
ReplyDeleteI never sawed a ladder in half for *my* daughter! But I cut her grapes into quarters until she was four and past the choking stage... is that the same thing?!?
ReplyDeleteBoth halves of the ladder were put to creative and beautiful use! I especially love the one framing your photo gallery. (By the way, the photo to the left of the FAITH one is stunning.. there's just something about it that has really grabbed my attention... bwahahahahahaha!!!)
xoxo

Looks awesome, very clever! And I have those iron square candle holders with the circle in them. They do look much better in the color you painted them. I think I might have to do the same to mine! I'm a new follower! Can't wait to stay updated on all you're doing! I'd love it if you stopped by and took a look around my blog. And if you feel so inclined, follow me too!

ReplyDeleteKammy, I love this! I have an old ladder that was my dads. Nobody wanted it; as a matter of fact, they all laughed at me when I took it. I told them, I'm going to make something really cool with it some day ~ now I know what that "really cool thing" is :D Thanx for Sharing!!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great use for an old ladder. I will be on the hunt for an old ladder now. Fabulous!

ReplyDeleteI see wires around the ladder. How did you hang it on the wall? I'm re purposing our old wooden swing set ladder.
ReplyDeleteOoohhh.... It looks so good! What a wonderful find: an old ladder.... Swoon.
ReplyDeleteYou did a fabulous job with both sides!
hugs x

It looks great. What did you use to mount the ladder on the wall? It looks like it is floating :). I am making a ladder as well but cannot figure out how to mount it on without the hardware showing. Could you please help me out?
ReplyDeleteIf you look at a close up (the 6th photo) you will see some wire looped around the ladder underneath the "blessed" sign. We looped wire around the ladder in two places and then hung the wire on nails on the wall, making sure to put them in studs. :) HOWEVER, have since moved into a different house and I have hung it differently this time - I screwed three hooks (ring hooks), evenly spaced, into the top of the ladder and hung each hook from a spike. I should blog about the update! :)
DeleteHi there I’ve also got a ladder but struggling to work out how to hang it. Could you share any pics? Thx.
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah! I've actually figured out a better way to hang a ladder than when I hung this one - I just screwed two big hooks into the top of the ladder, and then put two big nails (spikes actually! just make sure they're in studs) in the wall and hung it by the hooks. Hope that helps!
