Kitchen "Pass Through" Window {Restoring the Mansion}

So my hubby finally got the computer hooked up, and I finally have a moment to blog!
I almost forgot what blogging was.
This is definitely the longest I've ever been out of the blogosphere.
It's good to be back.  For now.

Here's a little update on Restoring the Lefere Mansion.
We've moved in!!!!!
Yes, exactly one week ago, a wonderful crew of family and friends helped us with our loads of junk/stuff/treasures and got us all moved in to the "new" place.

Today, I bring to you a part of my kitchen transformation.

Check this out from just a couple months ago until now!

So I'm not sure I can really call it a "pass through window" since that is typically what you'd call a little window that leads into a dining room where you can pass your food through SINCE I don't think I'm going to make the dining room an actual dining room.

In all actuality, I don't like to miss out on anything.  And I like to be able to see out.
Soooo... I wanted to cut a "window" out under the cabinets for that reason.

So when I told ole' Hubby I needed that, he was like "no way".  Ain't nobody got time for cuttin' out no dumb window.
So I waited for my dad to arrive from Iowa.

Every girl knows that when they really want something, they go to Dad.

Below are my parents who lovingly worked on our place for three weeks straight - after only planning on one week!

Me, prying off ceramic tiles:

And today!  My "window"!

And Tybo James seemed to think it made the perfect sniper spot:
(Don't mind the walls, I have yet to paint or do anything in this room!)

My we've come a long way, Baby!

  1. Oh, Kammy, this is looking really phenomenal. I'm loving the plank style ceiling, and white cupboards are always a good look.

  2. Is that wallpaper that was on the ceiling? I hate wallpaper. My husband & I are getting our house getting to sell and we have started to look what is available. I am nervous because a few of the houses have wallpaper. I have never removed it before.

  4. When you get time can you share the details on the materials you used for your ceiling and your backsplash? I am in the middle of remodeling our 1880's kitchen (which is how I found your blog - painting countertops). Our ceiling is in terrible condition and the previous owners put in a drop ceiling to hide the original. I hate it, but can't afford the really nice drop tiles they make now.

  5. I commend everyone that worked on this project. Fantastic Work, and I know...lots of it. Pat yourselves on the back, and then go give each other a big hug.
