guest blogging.

Hey there!  I'm Becky, from over at the Dempster Logbook.

Today I'm going to share with you my favorite project so far.  The "Rusty Cabinet Clean Up".

This beautiful cabinet has a total of 45 drawers.  45.  Not one less.

I bought this beauty and got it home to my husband, who was thrilled with my purchase.  {Please note the sarcasm.}  But then had to decide what I was going to do to clean up those drawers, and preserve it so that no rust would rub off!

I ended up following four steps:

First, I used an air compressor to blow off most of the dirt.

Second, I wiped all of the drawers, and the cabinet, with the mineral spirits on a rag to remove the remaining dirt.

Third, I applied Penetrol.  This is an add-in for oil based paints that keeps metals from rusting.  I applied with a foam brush and I don't see any brush marks on the cabinet.

Fourth, I clear coated the entire cabinet with a matte finish.

The end result really is beautiful, and I ditched my plans for selling this item and decided to keep it in my own house.

Can't you see why I just couldn't quite part ways with the cabinet?
It is the perfect fit for that little corner in my home!
