Stairway Makeover With Beadboard Paneling and Paint

Hi!!!!!!!  Last fall we started renovating "Gidley Station" (the rental property next door that is an old converted train station) and I've been dying to share a few photos.  Just been hard to find the time to blog!  Also, I'm still furnishing it with pieces I find here and there between people's stays in it.  What, people's stays?  What say you, Miss Kammy?  Well if you've never heard of Airbnb, you should look it up.  Gidley Station was listed on airbnb just a month and a half ago and it's been a fun ride so far.  Here's the link if you're wondering what on earth this newest craze is or you do know and you want to see the details: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/17448031

So today we're talking STAIRS!

We were trying to stay LOW BUDGET.  Like "how low can you go" low.
Basically, paint goes a long way.  But you all know that.
And carpet must go.  There were pets, second hand smoke galore, and just years of oldness.
...Oldness?

After the carpet came off....  I painted the treads all black and then put a HEAVY coat of polyurethane on them.  Then I did what I normally do.  Stood there scratching my head for awhile, "hmmmm" coming out of my closed lips..... and then a meander through the outbuildings to see what I might come up with.  Planning is over rated.  Of course there was something in the stashes....  leftover white beadboard paneling from our eating area in the house!  And there was JUST ENOUGH to cut pieces to go on the risers.

I put on my sunglasses, cuz who wants to take the time to find actual safety goggles, and started measuring and cutting on the table saw.

You can see, all that running back and forth to the table saw next door got me warmed up.  I shed the winter coat.  Okay now.  I know I've sung the praises of this Ryobi nail gun multiple times already in this blog, but really.  It is the BOMB DIGGIDY.  BATTERY POWERED NAIL GUN - it doesn't get any better than that, folks.

Then I found a long wood corner piece that I'm not even expert enough to know the technical term for, and Hubby cut and put those on for me.  Probably cuz he either didn't trust me to do it, or because I had seven wild hoodlums between the ages of six and ten running around wild, and all demanding a snack.  I did not seat the top with poly because I've kinda got a hankering to paint a cool rug on that there portion of floor someday.  But for now, I bought one to go there.... until the mood hits and the time is right......

Amazing what mostly paint can do..... I've said it a thousand times......
