Easy Tile-Look Back Splash {Plus Before and Afters of Tenant House #2}

So this is in one of our rental properties on our "estate".  It was in yucky shape when we got it!
Do you see what the nicotine does to walls in a house???  Those walls were white at one time:

This is after SCRUBBING the walls before coating it with Kilz!
Seriously, smokers!  If you don't care about your lungs, at least care about your walls.
Uhhh.....?

Anyways, this post isn't really about how yellowed the walls were from cigarette smoke.
It's about a back splash!  I had painted it a light gray, but really wanted to do more with it.  So when the first tenants moved out, I grabbed my  moroccan stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils because it has a "tile look" to it and used a darker gray paint and a foam roller.

When I was done with the stencil, it still looked unfinished to me.
So I found a piece of white trim leftover from who-knows-what project and cut it to fit under the cabinets.  I used my handy cordless Ryobi nail gun to secure it to the wall.

See how just adding a piece of trim can really make something look finished?

This project was super easy and if you get tired of it, all you have to do is paint over it!
Forget trying to tear off old tiles or remove glue in a decade....  win win!

Like it? Pin it! :)

While we're here in the little "Tenant House's East Side" how about a few more before/after pics for fun?

  2. WOW! That back splash is almost identical to my kitchen! Our stencil isn't as "squashed" as yours but is similar. The colors look the same too!
