Waterfall Desk Before and After

I'll bet you a gallon of Valspar paint you ain't got neighbors like I got!!  One Sunday, me and my fam were sitting on the patio enjoying our lunch when the neighbors pull in and say they picked up some furniture for me at an auction.  They unloaded a few desks and then had to go back and get the rest!!  Told you you didn't have neighbor's like mine!  So this desk was $5.  I LOVE the old waterfall style!

Tobin is ALWAYS wanting a "job".  So I put him to work scraping off the hideous finish on top.

After painting the desk black, I used this stencil on the drawers.  I also gave the drawer pulls several coats of silver spray paint.
Annnnnnd, I finished it yesterday!  Woo hoo!!  If you recall my freebie desk that was featured on BetterAfter, this is the exact opposite with the same color/pattern scheme!  That was white with black stenciling.  Click HERE to see it!  Have a great weekend and..... Don't forget that TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO ENTER MY GIVEAWAY!!!  CLICK HERE TO ENTER!!!!

Pillow Sham Chair Makeover

Be. Fore.  ONE DOLLAR CHAIR!  May I just pat myself on the back over this project for a minute?  Because I kind of feel like this is the FIRST TIME that I reeeeally came up with something completely on my own - using fabric!  I ALWAYS get my ideas from other sources, I'm not as creative as I like everyone to think I am!  But I'm SO EXCITED that I actually came up with this all by my big girl self.  I even used grown up scissors, rather than my four year old's!  Haha.

So remember last week my mom made me a skirt out of pillow shams I bought at Goodwill?  (Click HERE to see it).  Well, naturally, with a motto like "Waste Not, Want Not" I couldn't just throw the scraps away...  I decided they'd make a cool cover for this seat cushion!

I layered them, and stapled them on the back with one of my favorite tools - the staple gun.  I like guns anyway.  Guns = large biceps, 12 gauges, hot glue guns....... I like guns.

For extra security, I added a little hot glue under the hem of each layer.

Finished product.  Not liking that you can't see the detail real well in this pic... but I have three little hoodlums needing attention, and taking a new pic to download would not be something they would appreciate right now!!  So here 'tis.
Don't Forget my GIVEAWAY that ENDS TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!! CLICK HERE TO ENTER!!!!!!!!

Tobin's Lamp Before And After

25 Cent garage sale lamp.  The needle pointed somewhere between average and nasty on the "condition odometer".

With a little paint, most anything can look good again!  May I not recommend spray painting lampshades though?  At least this one didn't work so well!  It made it real brittle and any amount of handling (and handling is kind of required with lamp shades, they don't float on top by themselves!) can cause it to crack!  Also, you think you're spraying it on nice and evenly and THEN..... you turn on the light.  Oops, not as even as you thought!  Hope you enjoyed the before and after today, brought to you from Tobin's bedroom upstairs. :)

Large Faux Wood Mirror Before And After

After looking at the same bedroom furniture for over 30 years, my mother in law suddenly snapped and had to get it out IMMEDIATELY!  Well, at least a piece of it.  So she decided the mirror would be the easiest to replace and asked me if I wanted it.  Ummm, YEAH!  Do I ever refuse free stuff?

After painting it black, I used a small brush and dipped it in light blue paint and water and then brushed it on lightly here and there.

I used my finger to blend it in.  A little messy, but it worked good!  Then I put a glaze on it - also here and there, not everywhere.  I've never used glaze before.... that i can remember....  I got a gallon FREE at a garage sale and figured I shouldn't let it go to waste and this was as good a time as any to try it out!  Did I read any directions or anything?  No... probably should have.  But I just painted some on here and there and I'm loving the end results!

Now.... gotta find either a spot for this in my house, or a spot for it on that awesome list of Craig's. :)

Money Saving Tips on Paint

You might be amazed at the paint you can scrape outta that there roller.  Then wash the roller out good and save it for next time.  If you're not done painting, and want to come back to it tomorrow, wrap it in plastic wrap or a couple of grocery bags, making sure no air can get to it.  I have done this and come back to it several days later and it was still as fresh as ever.

If you use paint a lot, it's nice to keep lots on hand so you don't have to make a special trip in to buy it when you want to use it AND you won't have to pay full price.  Every time I walk into a Lowes, Home Depot, etc. I always check out the mistints or "oops paint".  Often it is high quality paint for a fraction of the cost.  Above is a can I just snapped a pic of from my shelf - as you can see it was regularly $26.98 and I paid a whopping $5.00!!  You can often find shades of taupes, whites, blacks....  which brings me to my next tip:  Mixing your own paint color!
Got a few half filled paint cansstored on those spider webby shelves in the garage?  Don't be afraid to try mixing your own paint!  My pals and I do it all the time.  Looks too brown?  Add a little black.  Too dark?  Add some white...  test it out somewhere out-of-the-way to see how you like the color.  Make sure you give it time to dry - Paint ALWAYS looks different wet!!!  AND asI've learned the hard way, make sure you have ENOUGH to cover what you want to - I've gotten ALMOST finished painting a room, only to run out and it was nearly impossible to get the same color!  Oops!  When I do have leftovers, I put them in a jar with a tight lid in case I need to touch up somewhere.  Happy Painting! :)

Hours
Sat: 9:00 am-7:00 pm
Sun: 12:00 pm-5:00 pm
Attention you Jacksonites!!!  Wowzers, hubby and I stumbled upon a jackpot while out driving.  "Out driving" isn't something we do, but I don't feel like explaining.  haha.  Let me tell you it is a HUMONGO building (old warehouse, factory, former pot smokin' joint, or something) run by these really cool dudes named Ryan, Ben, and Andy. The three amigos.  Only they're gringos. They drive around Michigan, Ohio, Indiana... and pick up truck loads of "STUFF" - mostly furniture - unload it all in their big ole' building and sell it to we the people for pretty good deals!  They're willing to dicker up or down.  Dickering is what I'm all about.  Unfortunately we just had our car, and had to fit two kids in as well so I only managed to snag a crazy vintage end table and some kiddy chairs.  HOWEVER, I went back with fellow junker Marie and this time I was smart-o and brought the pick up!  Well kids, when I left the house, my hubby gave me strict orders NOT to" go crazy".  Well, by his standards....  I WENT CRAZY.  I couldn't HELP IT!!!!  I GOT SUCH AMAZING DEALS!!!!!!!!  And Ryan and his sidekick Melvin were so awesome strapping it all down for me...  I just kept finding more stuff!  What's a girl to do??  I'm sorry Honey, I'm sorry, I"m sorry.  I'll make you Kraft Mac n' Cheese every night for supper if you want!!!  Please forgive me!
There's always room for more!

Andy and Ben strappin' her tight for the haul down I 94.
How awesome is this?!!  I see something beautimous in it's future! Stay tuned to see what this turns into!!
Cute little stool and chair.  I think I paid $6 for both.  Ty saw I was going to snap a pic, quick jumped on the stool and posed saying "Mommy, get a picture of me going like *this*"......  Oh yeah, he had to make sure he had his little Bible, too. :)

Feathers And Little Hawkeye Fans

Armed with a yellow Painter, I went to work making some new headbands - for our Iowa Hawkeye Fans!!!!  I also had to paint one of the buttons black - I'm lacking in large black buttons.  Paint solves a variety of problems!  So Iowa fans, these are for sale now!!  $4 each - can't beat that, now can ya?!!  Makes a great baby gift or teen girl gift or hey, maybe you've got a hip Granny who would like one!
Has anyone figured out to refill these things by the way?  They cost way too much for me to buy on a regular basis!  I've attempted with little success, so if you have, please leave a comment!!! Muchos Gracious!

Meet Kiley.  She's a girl of all things trendy.  I stole this profile pic of her off of Facebook (calm it, yo, I got permission.  Okay so I guess you don't get permission before you "steal"), and she's sporting a Kammy's Korner Headband!!  So there ya go since  many of you ask if they fit a larger head.  (Kiley, I promise I'm not calling you 'big headed'!)The crochet waffle bands are perfect for babies right on up to Crazy Grandmas! I also made headbands for her cheerleading team when they went to state, but I'm still waiting on a pic from that ordeal!  hint, hint. ;)
I've been having fun with feather froof too!  Changin' it up a little from the flowers.
Click HERE TO VISIT KAMMY'S KORNER ONLINE STORE to check out more options.
Does your baby girl have a set of baby blues?  Then this headband is a must for picture time!!
This is on an alligator clip so you can wear it plain or of course, attach it to a headband.

Marie's Ottoman Before and After

That upholstery fabric was so soft and cozy.   It brings back childhood memories of being sick on the couch and drinking chicken broth, surrounded by love and puke buckets.   But they were so funky and ugly.

Marie is handy dandy with a sewing machine.  She's handy at everything.  Except maybe, when it comes to naming fruits.  Kumquat anyone?  Sorry, inside joke.  One that I'm actually not even really in on... but I've sure heard her family tease her about it...  I smile and pretend I'm not an outsider.  :)

I first titled this post "Marie's footstool" and then remembered Lindsay from BetterAfter was recently blogging about the disappearance of footstools and how they've been replaced with ottomans aka "immense island of sofa."  It seems to me however, that this is somewhere between... it must have hit the markets when footstools were on their way out and ottomans were on their way in....  At any rate, pretty darn cool, eh?  You'd never know the brown velvety stink bug was hiding under there!

Country Corner Shelf

I'm pulling yet another picture out of my "back in the day" folder.  And "back in the day" was when I didn't see the need to take before pictures, so I found this on google images and I think it's as close as I could come to the original.

Now granted, I'm  a country hick, livin' the country life, but I'm just not all about the country style.  When it comes to cut-out hearts and all that jazz, anyway.  But hey, thankfully the world is made up of lots of different breeds and some of those breeds happen to like the heart touch.  Like, they totally heart hearts.  Uhh, my bad.  Anyways, I sold this at my first ever flea market (which was a total of about 20 booths at an old tractor show - anyone out there ever heard of Tompkins Center, MI?) and I was quite pleased!  I thought the white with blue contrast made for a nice, fresh look - country lovin' style or not!
