The Desk I was loathing...

I'm going to give it to you straight.  I picked up this desk for $5 at a garage sale.  (It originally had $30 on it, but I guess they saw my 2 little munchkins and huge preggo belly and had pity on me!)  It's been sittin' in the chicken house, covered in scary spider webs, and I knew I had to get to it someday, but ugh, just didn't want to deal with it.  Suddenly, 3 days ago, a packed punch of motivation hit me and I carried it into the barn. I'll let the before and afters speak for themselves and until next time: HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!!!!!!!!

Shabby Shade

So I said I couldn't recover shades (exception: barrel shapes!), and this was one attempt.  Pfffff.  It sat like that a looong time and my mom even sent it out to the trash.  Nooooooooo Mother, nothing is unsalvagable!!!  How dare you!!  :)  So after deciding I could do nothing with it and that fabric that was glued on here and there, on over yonder, I ripped it off and started over.

Enter fabric that was pennies at St. Vincent De Paul.

I cut in into strips.  Lots of strips.

Sewed a wide stitch up the middle of each strip.  Which took a looooong time because I had to consult the manual on how to do a baste stitch (ummm, is that the term I want there?), which after reading nearly ever word, couldn't find it, so had to call my mom!  Why didn't I just do that first?  I dunno.  But I know for next time.  She's a sewing genius.  I'm a sewing moron.

I pulled on of the threads at the end to make a ruffle and hot glued each strip on.  This is sooooo time consuming but the end results are quite worth it, I'd say!  Never throw an old lampshade away again, okay?  There is hope!!

2nd Harlequin Table in a Week!

I think it's been a week anyway.  The days are all running together on me lately.  Is that a great "before" picture by the way or WHAT?!  And yes, that's bird poop all over the top.  Mmmm, appetizing for a table.  It was being stored in the "yucky" side of the barn.  Makes you really want to buy it, doesn't it?  I promise, I cleaned it real good before painting.  Actually, paint covers up bird poo pretty well....  JUST kidding!

I don't know what's with my photography these days.  It just plain STINKS.  But this will have to do, because I don't feel like fiddling with it for a third photo session.  (Dropping my camera three times yesterday wouldn't have anything to do with photo quality, would it?  Naw, didn't think so).

And there it is with it's side popped up.  Nifty, eh?  This table totally doesn't look light green, but that's what the paint said it was.  I'm not sure I believe it.  (Click here to see the turquoise clock before and after!)

Sleeping? Sorry, need that sheet for curtains!

Blog reader, meet Marie's bed sheet new curtains.  Marie has her share of crazy stories, but this one was just too funny not to pass on!  So I go to her house the other night and per usual instead of being greeted "Hi, Kammy, how are you" I  get greeted "Hey, ohhhh you gotta see the (fill in the blank) I made/did/created/dug-out-of-a-dumpster!!!"  So this particular night it was "HEY, You gotta see my new curtains!! I found this super cheap clearanced fabric and so at midnight decided to make some curtains with them and I needed some white fabric for the backing and didn't have any so I knew just the perfect fabric - a bed sheet!"  Nevermind it's midnight, and her husband is fast asleep!  So she storms in, rips off the sheet, startles the bajeebies out of sleeping hubby, and finishes her curtains.  Mr. Husband settles back down, rolls his eyes, rolls over, and is thankful life is never boring with that woman he married!  (Trust me, it actually goes both ways!)

So you know the love I have for earrings - especially old lady clip-ons!!  Well Marie shares the love - and neither of us have our ears pierced!  Here's one spot they show up in her house!  Love the touch.

Let's hope she doesn't decide she needs his pillow next time!

Hand Painted Lamp Redo

Marie asked me if I wanted a pair of white lamps.  Why but of course! :)  I laid them in the back of my van... and only one survived.  I swear, I didn't single-wheel it around any corners or slam brakes.  I think I might have sneezed though.  Yup, that musta done it.  So I only had one to purdy up.

I got a free sample of sky blue Valspar in the mail (did you get your free sample?  Pays to check icravefreebies.com regularly, ya know!!) and painted this about a month ago.  I decided today it was just way too boring to ever do a post about.  So while I was "ab circle pro-ing" it down in the basement while my kids fixed me chocolate covered plastic carrots to keep me going, I got a brainstorm.  I ran upstairs,  and grabbed a stencil, brush, and a bottle of brown acrylic.  Uh, yeah right.  It was impossible to stencil over all those ridges.  So I looked at it and free-handed it.  Now I'm a pathetic free-hander.  I'm just not steady enough.  So imagine my exasperation when my sweet little girl toddles over and swipes her precious pudgy little hand across my paint job!  ahhhhhh!  I hollered.  Probably a little too loud.  She cried.  But she wasn't intentionally being naughty and I felt bad and smothered her with kisses.... then repainted it.  I can't find the right lampshade.  Everything I have in stock just doesn't seem right.  There is however, that one that I've been attempting to recover that would work...  and all three kiddos are napping.... maybe it will show up soon on a post?  I doubt it. :)

I heart Harlequin: Table - Before and After

Before: I didn't even find this great table.  My neighbor did for me - $5 if my mommy-brain remembers right!  I know you're wishing you had awesome neighbors like I do.  Well you can, just move to Erie Road like I did!

I painted the whole table with a light green color.  So light green that you can't even tell it's green!  Oh, and I got the paint free - I have my sources.... :)  I used a light gray that was leftover from my ceilings in our addition for the harlequin stencil.  I found this big stencil on clearance at Hobby Lobby and ohhhhh is it so much easier with a stencil!!!!!  Have you ever tried to do something like this without a stencil?  I'm extremely, over-the-top, need your autograph, impressed with you if you've managed to pull it off.  I've tried.  Tried.

After! :)  Beware.  I love this and you may get bored seeing this on future projects!!  I did this yesterday and kept my roller in a plastic baggy.  So today I headed out to the barn and surveyed the goods to see what else would look good with this design.  I found something... so be watching for that soon as it is awaiting it's 2nd coat right now!  Just gotta get kids down for naps.....

Not sure if it shows up real well in the picture (hey, I was going for subtle so that must mean I succeeded!) but I rubbed small amounts of the gray on with my fingers on the edges and around the corners to give it an aged look.  Stay tuned for the next Harlequin design!  p.s. I probably wouldn't have known that was called harlequin - it was on the stencil!  And you thought I was good with design terms...  nope!

Senior Pics On Erie Road

I am NOT a photographer.  But..... I know a few of the basics...  and I found a new love for outdoor portraits when a friend came to me asking if I would do her senior pictures.  I'd never done them before, so I wasn't making any promises on how they'd turn out!  But we sure have a kazillion great spots for a darn good back drop and I wanted to try.  (You can see how my first session went with Britteny HERE.).  So when Ty'eshia told me she needed some senior pictures for her open house coming up very soon, I readily agreed!  We took them last night and I've been working on them ALL MORNING, and I think I'm finally done editing!  Here's a peak at some of my favorites!

We have an old stone wall out by the barn that I just love!

In the doorway of our chicken house.

Stonewall again.

Against the wall in Ty's new bedroom!
In the corn crib.

And last but not least, on one of the few patches of grass left in my yard!!

Hello, Facebook! "LIKE" for a chance to WIN!!

At the urging of a new found friend who is also an internet marketing something-or-other, I finally made a Facebook Fan Page.  I was never quite sure of the benefits of this, but I guess it helps get the word out. Also since MOST of my friends who read it are on facebook but for some reason or another refuse to be a follower (you know who you are!!), I thought this would be less intimidating and at the same time help me meet my goal of actually making this my little "stay at home business".  So for a little incentive...  The FIRST 200 people to"'like"   Kammy's Korner on Facebook will be automatically entered to win a $15 Applebee's gift card!!!  And this isn't even something I have sitting around.  I'm shocking those closest to me with this, I know.  You know my gift cards are like gold to me.  We don't go out to eat unless we have one!  (Or the place has a dollar menu!).  Random.org will select at random a name from the first 200 fans and you'll enjoy some applebees grub on Kammy's Korner!! :)  Hurry before it's too late!!  CLICK HERE!!

Green Retro Lamp Redo

I've tried to recover lampshades.  Well, sorta tried.  They scare the dickens outta me, actually.  Until I found barrel shaped lampshades!  FOR ONE DOLLAR EACH at the Jackson Resale Factory!!  Hello, easy-to-cover lampshades!!  Blue and yellow stripe wasn't all that bad, for maybe a little boy's nursery or something, but since I don't have a little boy nursery in my home any longer, they needed to get recovered!  More on that later.....

I got this pair of A.DOR.ABLE milkglass lamps.  The only paint that touched them, amazingly enough, was some silver oil based paint to cover up the dated looking dingy gold metal.

Left side done, right side not.
I hot glued this fabric - which I had JUST enough scraps from a different project to use - around the bottom and tucked it under, and unfortunately I didn't do that with the top but made a narrow band and hot glued that on.  Didn't turn out quite as smooth, so I wish I'd have gone with a nice clean finish like I did on the bottom BUT ALAS...  I didn't.   Now then.  Anyone need a cute pair of lamps?
