Stunning Side Table Before n' After

I found this in a DIVE of a place.  You couldn't have hips any wider than 35 inches I swear or you wouldn't have been able to walk through the isles of junk.  MY KINDA PLACE!!!  Stuff was already marked pretty low and anything with a "9" on the price tag was half off.  As it turns out, everything that caught my attention had a "9" on it!  Giddy up!

I almost did this in a shabby chic white...  but I already had black paint on my roller from another project so I went with black.  I'm glad I did!  Then the top got my new favorite obsession - the Harlequin stencil!

I used silver glaze for the stencil.  Man, I love that stuff!  I use glaze alot!  It even works great as an alternative to toothpaste.  Okay, just testing to see who's actually reading and who's just looking at the pics. :)

Paintin' on the Planter Box

Walked outta the Jackson Resale Factory with this very large planter for a whoppin' eight bucks!  I didn't even dicker.  I know, hard to believe.  But I didn't.  Promise.  It already had little drain holes and everything.  All it needed was dirt and flowers!

And some fancifying with stencils, of course! :)  Now if you can believe this, I started this project like I do most projects (painting canvases, cooking supper, etc.) which would be with absouletly no plan in mind.  Which might be why the style of lettering I used doesn't at all match the style of design on the sides....  But hey.  So I start out stenciling the little dooly-dad on the left side.  Then... I move over to the right side and work my way to the middle.  Well, this just might be boring, maybe we should add some words.  How about the word "Sweet"?  I think flowers are sweet. So I stick that right in the middle.  Hmmm, now what?  That was dumb.  So I thought, and thought, and thought..... for about 1.3 minutes and the words "this" and "life" came to me. Perfect.  Each has 4 letters so we can keep this baby symmetrical!  And I'm done.  Except  for this announcement (after viewing the planter from afar....):

Don't Ignore The Ceiling!

The next time you're painting a room, forget about trimming perfectly where the wall meets the ceiling and just go right on up into that dog-gone ceiling!  I've done this before in my dining room (Click HERE to see) and LOVED the look.  We put molding between the color and the white, but I couldn't talk my hubby into doing that this time around!  So my mom got the ingenious idea of rounding the corners.  Adds such a fancy touch!!! The middle is actually a light gray, rather than white. I've been staring at white ceilings my whole life, and just plain sick of them!  (Okay, so I don't spend my life staring at ceilings!!)

We couldn't find a protractor so a pencil on a string did the trick!  My mom always has a trick up her sleeve!
We followed the look into the office as well.  Anyone else out there tired of boring ceilings??  Do something 'bout it! And then share your picture with me. :)  Which reminds me, I've been thinking about hosting my first ever link party...  and I would love to do a weekly themed party, instead of same 'ole! How about about a creative ceiling link party?  Think it would fly?                                                                                                                                                                          Don't forget - first 200 to "like" Kammy's Korner on FB are automatically entered to win an Applebee's Gift card!!!  Click HERE (or on my right sidebar up top) and maybe you'll be the lucky winner!

Rawrrrrrrr! Eat Some Dino Cake!

My hubby said I couldn't do it.  Just do something easy, who cares?  You can't do that.  Well that clinched it of course, I was going to do it.  I was going to make a 3D dinosaur birthday cake for my boys' birthday party. I'm not a cake decorator.  At all. It makes me nervous. I googled in "dinosaur cake" and found a picture of how someone had cut the pieces and arranged them so I printed it out to use for an idea.  I baked two round cakes.

Here's a great tip: use dental floss to slice the top off flat!

I sliced one circle right down the middle and stood them up next to each other to use for the body.  Then cut out the rest of the body parts.  The extra pieces got tossed to my kids who were standing around me like ravening wolves smelling blood.
The "spikes" going down his body are chocolate graham crackers, and I just mixed a little cocoa in with the remaining frosting, put it in a plastic baggy with the corner clipped and wrote the words. I also edged the graham crackers with the chocolate frosting to give them a more finished look.
Five years old going on 15 and 3 years old who can't remember if he's 2 or 7.

A little post party fun with Mommy........ :)

Funny Friday Before and After

Tobin, Ty, and Tori all got these as one of the prizes from the sunday school picnic last weekend.  They love them.  In fact, it's all they've wanted to drink out of this week.  Even water tastes like kool-aid in these babies!
And then Mommy did the unthinkable.  She put them in the dishwasher.  Afterall, the top rack should be safe, right?   I know, I know, plastic shouldn't go in PERIOD.  Nothing like drinking your cancer from the break-down.  So this was the sight this morning.  Ty was in tears, Tobin handled it like a man and thought it was funny, and Tori grabbed her still-in-tact bottle and chucked it at the boys.

Bored with my Bag

I got this purse at the Netti's garage sale. Marg wanted something of mine, so we just did an even trade.   It's exactly what I like on the inside.  Three big compartments - One for me, one for kids, and one for diapers.  But it really lacked in the fashion department.  Not that I've been caring much these days, I'm just another mom with a big bag!

Today I decided I'd seen enough purse makeovers on the blogosphere, it was time to do one myself.  I grabbed the big knife I was using to chop rhubarb for some jam I was making (yes, I have ADD, I'm in the middle of making jam when I suddenly decide it's time to do a purse makeover!), and punctured a hole in the side of the purse.  I made sure not to go through the lining.
Probably like 10 years ago, I had gotten this HUMONGO flower and spray painted it brown to go on a hat.  It never looked right and I yanked it off, sold the hat, and have that flower stashed in my box of scarves and what-nots for ever.  I pulled the middle out of it, and stuck the end into the punctured hole.  Secured with a massive glob of hot glue at the puncture wound opening and under some of the petals.  Hmmmm..... now I need just the perfect embellishment for the middle.
Whatever would I do without my old lady clip on earrings?!!!!  They pop up everywhere on this blog, don't they.  I pryed the back off, and hot glued it into the middle of the flower.

Snazzy.  I like it.  Way to go garage sale purses!  Thanks, Marg!  Hope you don't want it back... :)

Non-Bodacious Headbands and Froofy Feathers

This little beauty wanted some headbands.  But Daddy wasn't into the big bodacious ones that I generally make... so I tried my best to make some petite and dainty ones to compliment his petite, precious little darling.  Ohhhh, Felicity is a SWEETIE!!!!  With or without her headbands, she is 100% beautiful.  Here are a few headbands and hair clips that I added to Kammy's Korner Store today:

The beads that make up the center are from a gaudy necklace that fell apart.  Repurpose.  ALWAYS REPURPOSE!!

The nice thing about clips is that if your baby doesn't have hair, you can clip them onto a headband, and change your look up!  (And yes, that's my little munchkin modeling.  I have to claim that little doll!!)
Let me know if you want different colored feathers (on alligator clips) and I might be able to accommodate!
Be sure to make a purchase at Kammy's Korner Store today!  I can refund the shipping money if you're local or will be seeing me in Iowa (July) for a hand delivered package. Just let me know.

Old Window For Ty Paired With Design For Life

The girl I ran around with back in the crazy teen years was Heather Lyn.  Now she has three kids like me, is a creative genuis, and sadly lives 7.5 hours away... :(  But she has great talent and sometimes I get to benefit from that!  Like my blog for example.  You think I know how to make a blog header?  Or a button?  Ummm, negative.  That would be Heather aka Design With Life.  Anyways, she makes these 5x7 art prints and sells them on her etsy shop (Click HERE to visit) for next to nothing - they are so cool!  And very good, thick quality.  Don't want to call it paper, it's almost like cardboard.  Someone help me please, I have mommy brain.  I've had an old window sitting in my garage and I knew I wanted to do something with it for Ty's new room.  Then it dawned on me that these verses would be the perfect thing.  I printed off a 5 x 7 of one of my favorite photos of Ty for one section in the window, and the remaining corners got Heather's scripture art prints.

If anyone knows of a better way to attach things to windows other than two-sided tape, please let me know!  It's not too noticeable, but you can still see it.  But nothing brilliant has entered my little brain, so for now, doubled sided tape it is.

This kid thrives on being the center of attention at our house.  Ya think?  Has to jump in every picture I attempt to take, but wants to make sure the ones he gets in don't just stay on the card but make in onto the blog!  Okay Tobin, you win.  I'll post this one, too!

Now I have three more blank walls in this room to fill........

The Game Sargents

This year for our annual sunday school picnic, My hubby and I volunteered to be in charge of the games.  It was last Saturday, and it was a blast and a half!  David Peterson from North Carolina had the lesson and with the kid's help, mixed up a batch of brownies.  His "secret" ingredient was wet dog food.  Ruined it!  That one little ingredient that ruined the brownies was like sin.  One little sin can ruin us for Heaven!  We need to be pure!  But that's impossible: "For ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of God" it says in Romans.  The Lord Jesus died on the cross to pay the punishment for our sins.  When he died, he took our sins upon himself so we can be presented pure to God.  Have you found out your sins are taking you to Hell and you need to be made right with God?  Accept the gift of His Son!!  Okay, so this post was supposed to be about relay games, but how could I not help but share David's message??  It's such good news!!!!  So on to the games! If you're looking for some fun relay games to play, read on for some great ideas (I can't take credit since we scoured the internet for games and compiled the materials for what we thought looked like the the funnest ones!)
The key to having a successful (successful to me translates EVERYONE HAS FUN - with a large dose of competitiveness!!) is to have enthusiastic leaders.  The enthusiasm will overflow to the participants.  Pictured here is Leader Josh, running the line, slapping high fives, and gettin' everyone in the spirit!

The Jigsaw Puzzle Race:  The middle was already put together, which left all the edge pieces in a pile next to the chair.  Each person had to run down to the chair, fit a puzzle piece into it's rightful spot, and run back so the next in line could go.  First team to complete their puzzle wins!

The Marble Race: Everyone had a paper towel roll cut in half the long way.  There was one marble.  The person who started with the marble had to roll it through their "trough" to the next person's and all the way down the line.  As soon as it went though your trough, you ran to the front of the line to keep it going all the way until you cross the finish line.  It was much harder than it looked!  (note: we couldn't gather quite enough paper towel rolls, so we taped some toilet paper rolls together, and also used wrapping paper rolls).

Sponge Race: There is a bucket of water at the starting line.  First player fills the sponge with water, runs to the finish line where there is a dish and squeezes all the water into the dish and runs back.  Then it's person number 2's turn.  Team who fills their dish first wins!

Hoola Hoop Race: Team members stand in a circle and hold hands.  Hoola Hoop is placed in the middle.  The Leader must pick up the hoop with his foot and it must get passed all the way around the circle with nobody breaking hands!  First team to make it all the way around (it went fast so I would suggest going around and back) is the winner.

Baseball Bat Dizziness: Run to the finish line.  Pick up bat and put your forehead on it and spin around the bat three times.  Run (or attempt to run!!) back to your team so the next player can go.  Each person sits down when completed so you know who's done.  First team all done wins!
I had to add this picture to show you that even Angelina from HOUSEWIFE EXTRAORDINAIRE joined in the fun.  Okay, that was the understatement of the year.  Don't be fooled by her blog - She was a WILD WOMAN!!!  She must have had competitiveness bottled up inside since she moved out of her parents house with her three sisters and decided to pop the lid off for the games!!
Balloon Race: Run to the finish line and back with a balloon between your legs!  You will need extras ready to replace all the balloons that get popped!
The Balloon Sandwich Race:  Another balloon race - grab a partner and place the balloon between your backs.  Partners must make it to the finish line and back without dropping, popping, or touching the balloon.
Oldie But Goodie: The Three Legged Race.  We used a gunny sack rather than tying legs together, but either way works great!  Check out the determination of David (and that would be the preacher from North Carolina who eats dog food brownies!) and D'Angelo's faces!!

And then of course the yearly tradition: TUG OF WAR!  We had to use it for a tie-breaker between the two winning teams, but then it's always kids vs. adults and of course, the kid's always win!!!  Wut up wid dat?!!!!  We managed to round up some more adults to have a second go at it and finally managed to pull those little munchkins over to our side!!!!  Fun was had by all and healthy  competition was oozing all over the place, which in my book equals SUCCESS!!!! :)
