Our Home: Snow Day 2018 - Winter Wonderland!

November 26, 2018

Got the early morning call that school was canceled due to snowy road conditions.

The heavy, wet snow covered the earth in such beauty that I had to put my boots on and trounce through it all to get some pictures around our property.
I didn't even bother with getting my real camera, but just used my phone; my fingers getting so numb I couldn't find it in me to meander over to the waterfalls, but I think I got some pretty cool shots!
Enjoy the beauty a fresh snow brings!
(Even though I will probably be heard saying "I hate winter" until about April!)

(Is it just me, or is the silo leaning....)

Too cold to use the outhouse!

My three munchkins - sitting on their "snow bench" behind their "snow wall" eating snow that hopefully is not flavored with chicken manure!!!  SICK! :)

Framed Photos On Reclaimed Wood for the Stairway

Last time I was in Iowa, dad hauled me out to his shed (no, not the wood shed) and asked if I wanted any of his scrap wood.  YES! Of course.  No brainer, Dad.  But he went a step further and cut them and nailed and glued them together for me!!!!!  He brought me a stack and I was so happy I could have hugged him.  But we don't really hug.  Except sometimes when it's time to say good bye.

With mom's help, we put sawtooth hangers on the back and using paper taped to the wall first decided where we wanted them.  Then we hung them up........

I got four similar frames from my stash in the attic which we painted black and then framed some 8 x 10's  that I had printed off in black and white at good ole' Wal Mart.

Like my $6 thrifted chandelier I spray painted black? :)

I love that I now have some "eye candy" going up my stair way!  It finally looks complete.  :)

Thanks for stopping by!!

Amateur Photographer And Family Portrait Firsts

I had messed around with a few senior shots for friends before but until last fall, had never done any family portraits.  Taking pictures of people for people makes me nervous!  I'm not a photographer by any means.  But it is fun, and our new place has some perfect scenery for a great family photo back drop!  So here are a few shots from the three families I've done this year!  (The three families are in the order I took them).

Austin's Senior Portraits: This Amateur Photographer Strikes Again

I make my husband real nervous when I agree to take someone's senior pictures. I'm not a professional by any means, nor do I have a very high quality camera!  But I've found that if I shoot under an overcast sky and stay outside, it all falls together nicely.  :)  I'm sure "real" photographers will look at these quite critically - but please cut me some slack!  I really do not claim to know what I'm doing!

Here's a sneak peak ofa few shots I got of my husband's first cousin once removed (got that?).

Another awesome thing about living at the "Lefere Mansion"?  All the great photo opps!

This is standing in the doorway of our old Dutch Windmill
Don't touch the poison ivy!

Someday, I will show you some recently acquired photos of what this stone bridge and the beautiful waterfalls and cement pond that surround it once looked like!  Amazing!  Sigh.... :)

And wish me luck as I do my first family photo shoot today!!
I'm praying for overcast skies and a steady hand. :)
