The Tenant House Bathroom Before & After Photos

Today, I bring to you.... another post on the Tenant House!

If you're going "Tenant House?  What??"  Then maybe you need to back up and read about that in the Tenant House Mudroom Makeover HERE because I don't feel like explaining it all again.  If you don't want the whole story, it's one of the other houses on our property that we now rent out to some wonderful people!

Let's see some BEFORES, shall we?

Here is the state it was after we closed on the short sale:

Oh what's that?  You want to see that toilet up close and personal?

You got your wish.

Hey, I know life gets busy.  But really.  You gotta take time to clean the toilet now and then!

Mom and I scrubbed down the vanity but we weren't going to TOUCH that toilet.

Now this is where my hubby and I butted heads.  He was sure it could be cleaned up. (GAG). I insisted I would NEVER EVER make another human being sit on that dreaded toilet.

It became a joke.  When we got any extra money, Mom always said it should be put in the "new toilet fund."

And then there was the bathtub:

I'd say it's safe to say they used the upstairs shower??  Cuz just like it's a good idea to clean your toilet now and then... it's also a good thing to clean the bathtub.

Now you can see in the next pic where the bathtub was....  with the help of a sledge hammer, Dad and Hubby got it out:

And in the process...... my Dad "accidentally" smashed the toilet!  HAHA!  

Guess that solved our dilemma in a hurry!  Out went the toilet!

Does he look like it was an accident???

Yeah, probably a real good idea to get some new flooring put in while we're at it...  

This corner: such a perfect waste of space and such a perfect place for a shower! 

Figure it out, Honey!

Oh wait, I must zoom in on the top of that....  yeah -duct taped up to the ceiling.  Pretty classy!

Oh what?  Retired friends looking for something to do?

Enter Linn and his buddy on the scene!!  New floor?  Bam.  New shower installation?  Bam.  New drywall?  Bam.  What's not to love about these guys?

Tearing in to lathe and plaster... always a neat and tidy job!

So because I took these pictures prior to anyone moving in, I do not have a pretty shower curtain or any of the extras - just the end result of our labors.  Wish I could have staged it a little!  But here's the new corner shower, toilet, floor......

 

And no more duct tape!  Put some molding around the top - just the thing to secure it and now the "walls" around the pipe don't wobble all over the place like they did previously.

Painted the old cabinet and a mirror to match, and spray painted the sconce lights with a hammered bronze.  New faucet, too!

The flooring is just a big sheet of vinyl that has the rustic wood look I love - we were nervous to try that but read lots of positive reviews so decided to give it a go.  I'm a little anxious to see how it holds up!

Putting a band-aid on it!!

Today I'm just going to give you a peak into Tobin's bathroom.  It is still pretty "raw", but SO much better than it was!  It took some major plumbing to get this bathroom running, but for now it works and so we decided it best to just "put a band aid on it"!  In time, we'll rip the band aid off and give the whole bathroom a complete start over.  But for now, the toilet flushes, the sink (sort of) works, and the dirt washes off just fine in his avocado colored bathtub! 

So, this is NOT done, just a "getting by" post!  Sometimes, you just can't do it all!! :)

On the left side of the picture above,, you can see there used to be another doorway in to this bathroom.  They walled it from the hallway but not from inside the bathroom.  Part of our "band aid" for that, was to put a piece of paneling we pulled off the kitchen wall over it for now, and painted it white.  Eventually, we will be opening that doorway back up so our guests can use this bathroom.

Just slipping in this picture 8 years later because I sold the ladder and found this board with hooks in a garage sale "free box". Score! :)

Bathroom #3 {Main Floor Half Bath}

The Before was pretty much just a blank slate.  Just what I like!

It did however, just have a pull chain rusty and outdated light fixture - the chain broke and I had to stand on a chair to turn the light on.  There was also no vent, so the electrician had to come in and do some hacking in to the nice beautiful wall.  

The toilet looks so unsuspecting sitting there hidden around the corner....

But when we lifted the lid..........

Hey, when a house sits empty for a couple of years... what do you expect?  I hightailed it out of there before I lost my cookies (like Ty is about to in the picture!).

NOW.... doesn't it look like an okay to place to "take care of business"?

Now let's have a look-see at that adorable little corner sink:

I used Brasso and a toothbrush to scrub the very tarnished green faucets.  I knew there was something beautiful under all the grime... just keep scrubbing, just keep scrubbing....  I think I used half the bottle and though they're not perfect, here they are now!

 Now I know these are oh-so-pretty, but I'm going to be a big of a "Debbie Downer" here.  It's really uncomfortable to wash your hands.  Unless you're Paul Bunyon, your hands will only fit under one spigot at a time.  So you either get ice cold water or scald your skin.  No in between, folks.

I hope you'll excuse the photography of this bathroom since there is no natural lighting and it's a narrow little bathroom which meant getting decent pictures was a challenge!

I know, I should probably have some cutesy little mason jar soap dispenser in there... but alas.  You can't be Martha Stuart all the time.  Ha, who am I kidding.  I'm not even Martha Stuart 1% of the time!

I'm still crying a few tears that I didn't get my chandelier in this bathroom.

The electrician put the spot for the light too close to the wall so a chandy simply wouldn't fit without banging up against the wall.  :(  I couldn't find a light I liked for the life of me, so for awhile, just a light bulb lit the space.  Then one day while I was out of state I called my hubby to see what was happenin' on the home front and he informed he couldn't chat because he was in the middle of installing the light fixture for the half bath.  "What?!  But I couldn't find one I liked!"  "Well, I just went out and bought one" was his reply.  Oh help.  I was nervous.... but it's in and I have no choice but to like it, he said!  I don't think he did too bad, what do you think?  Like he said, I have no choice now, so might as well like it, even if I'm not sure it matches completely...

Well, there you have Bathroom #3's makeover!
